They could've just not done anything and let it implode on its own and not expended any political capital in this fight and come out in a better position than trying to use a backdoor way to defund the program. I think both side are going to take a hit on this program in the end but the Republicans could've come out in a better position if they had let it play out before they showed their cards and bet the house. JMO...

End the end I think they will throw it back in our laps (i.e. more taxes) because it is after all a government "Of the people"... Sarcasm

I think their thought was Obamacare was going to turn into something like Social Security. A flawed plan from the outset and would become nearly impossible to overturn after full implementation. Although I think Obamacare is basically designed to fail to usher in single payer. Harry Reid pretty much in his own words confirmed that was the end goal all along.

A year or two ago they should have passed appropriation bills as usual and they could have just not passed HHS appropriations. While that would not have shut down Ocare itcould have hobbled the agency imp;lementing it for a long time. They were idiots to try to do that after the fact. I just don't think they thought out any coherent strategy.

The Republican party seems fractured and unorganized.

Obamacare would have much better if it banned children under the age of 2 from restaurants, airplanes, and theaters. Chuck E Sneeze can have an exemption.

PLEASE...don't make it appear that the Dems (the one's that rammed this down our throats!) are any smarter!

I'll never forget the Pelosi quote...

I don't think they are any smarter. It's easier to defend than attack something. To attack takes action, to defend takes reaction. The Rs had no coherent strategy and bitched things. That doesn't make the d's smarter.

Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps have all been "imploding" since the day the were implemented. Where do you think that national debt comes from? The Military? The military is maybe a third of the budget, and the only Constitutional funding requirement the federal government has (with, maybe, the exception of the Post Office).

The fact is, once a program is started, and people enroll in it, that is enough for Democrats to come out of the woodwork and claim that if you kill the program, you will kill-off, or starve those reliant upon it. Mainly because the working assumption is that people are not resourceful, or able to take care of themselves. And then you get a bunch of mindless leftist hacks to jump in there and demonize anyone who thinks that people should be willing to take care of themselves.

The system will not implode. The system will implode when the rest of the country implodes. If you think that is a grand strategy, I have no idea what to tell you.

The only thing the Republicans did wrong was blink. The longer they held out, the more support they would have received.

Have to agree with jpotts. Millions of people, most of which are trying to work hard and make a living, are now getting screwed over as a result of this law.

If they can still get coverage similar to what they had which now doesn't qualify it will cover less and cost more in the vast percentage of cases. To sit back and let people get screwed over to get political points is evil and is what defines the other side, politics over any other consideration.

I would have much preferred the Republicans to go down fighting trying to derail this monstrosity than see them act tough briefly and then kick the can further down the road.
