End the end I think they will throw it back in our laps (i.e. more taxes) because it is after all a government "Of the people"...
Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps have all been "imploding" since the day the were implemented. Where do you think that national debt comes from? The Military? The military is maybe a third of the budget, and the only Constitutional funding requirement the federal government has (with, maybe, the exception of the Post Office).
The fact is, once a program is started, and people enroll in it, that is enough for Democrats to come out of the woodwork and claim that if you kill the program, you will kill-off, or starve those reliant upon it. Mainly because the working assumption is that people are not resourceful, or able to take care of themselves. And then you get a bunch of mindless leftist hacks to jump in there and demonize anyone who thinks that people should be willing to take care of themselves.
The system will not implode. The system will implode when the rest of the country implodes. If you think that is a grand strategy, I have no idea what to tell you.
The only thing the Republicans did wrong was blink. The longer they held out, the more support they would have received.
