Is it possible for a president to be effective?

Our political system has become so divided and broken I do not think a president can be effective any more. I am not referring to Bush or Obama, just pondering the future.

Heck yes, but not necessarily in a good way. Look how far into the ditch our current president has run the US.

I'm not sure its really divided - neither party seems willing to stop the destruction.

I agree its broken though.
