An official told CNN today that the United States plans to move the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush into the Persian Gulf in coming hours to provide President Barack Obama with options for possible airstrikes against militants in Iraq, CNN's Barbara Starr reports.

President Obama will make a statement soon on Iraq. WATCH CNN for complete coverage.

President Barack Obama said today that the United States "will not be sending U.S. troops back into combat in Iraq," but that he would be reviewing a range of other options to support the Iraqi government against a sweeping advance by militant fighters.

Obama said that unless Iraq fixes its internal political problems, short-term military help from the United States won't make much difference.

However, the U.S. Navy was moving the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush into the Persian Gulf to give Obama an option for possible U.S. airstrikes, a U.S. official told CNN.

Fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, have seized Iraq's second-largest city, Mosul, as part of an advance toward Baghdad that gave them control of large parts of the country's northern area.

Well, in these uncertain times we have at least one thing we can depend on.

Whatever Obama chooses to do, the right wing pundits will kick and scream and yell that it's the worst thing ever.

Well......we defeated the Sunnis when we got rid of Saddam. The Shiites are now in power but under threat from the Sunni insurgency so I think that means we have to support the current Shiite government.

In Syria however, we support the insurgents and Al Qaeda against the Assad regime. The Syrian insurgents are directly linked to the Iraqi insurgents.

Iran is consistent. They support the current Shiite government in Iraq and support the Assad regime in Syria. To maintain consistency in both countries and to maintain our anti Iranian stance, the USA needs to support the Sunni insurgency and Al Qaeda.

Perhaps the USA should ignore the whole thing and go and destabilize South America. Destabilizing is what we're good at!

No way man. Most of our equipment is Desert Tan in color. If we go into South America we'd have to repaint everything again.
