HARDHEAD STORY! Me and a buddy of mine went down to Port Lavaca where there is a mile long state pier. The whole day saturday we pretty much had the pier to ourselves. Caught every five inch fish in the gulf. Evening came and we started hitting on some 6 and 7 lb gafftop. Had about 8 on a stringer, figured we give em to some local if any ever showed up.
This family of 10 shows up and parks their lazy a$$es in between me and my buddy who is about 10 yards down. They proceed to tie up their lines and mine. One of em catches a hardhead, reaches down to pick it up and gets it right in the palm. Needless to say, it hurt (that's what my limited understanding of Spanish indicated to me).
They continue to fish with the one gentleman shaking his hand in the air trying to shake the sting off. Well the sting got worse, and worse, and worse. Soon he is laying on the pier screaming "I'm going to die!" (that's what my limited understanding of Spanish indicated to me). They proceeded to bundled up their equipment and head for the hospital.
As they were about to leave, I pulled up the stringer of gafftops. One of em stops and asked "What kind of fish is that?". I explained "It's a saltwater catfish called a hardhead, very poisonous. Your friend might die if you don't hurry."
The pier was very quiet after they left.
Congrats again Barry. How'd you do this weekend?
