I've got something coming out of the foot of two Anejos. Only seen it before on the wrapper. Can plume start inside or am I dealing with mold?

A couple more votes for mold and I'm taking them back. Found em at a baccy shop that's not one of my usuals. Dammit. $10 was a decent deal.

Mold.................plume extrudes through the wrapper. From another place...
===========
Bloom: Also known as plume (both terms are correct), bloom is a naturally occurring phenomenon, a grayish or whitish fuzz that can appear on a well-aged cigar.
It is not mold and is completely harmless. Bloom is a residue from the fermenting oils within the cigar and is indicative of proper storage conditions.
It first appears on the surface of a cigar as tiny crystals and can eventually make the cigar look dusty.
A more advanced bloom gives an opaque white look to the entire cigar.

Mold anywhere except in the foot and you can wipe and smoke. Once it's in the foot, I wouldn't dare smoke it. Take them back if you can.

This morning I took a Flor De Cano from the box and noticed a bunch of white specks on the underside. Whipped them off and smoked it. Nom nom nom. Thanks DED!

Yeah, they're going back. Thanks all. I didn't want to believe it but figured it. I have to be able to take it back. It's not like I'm gonna go through every wrapped cigar I buy and survey it. Although it may happen if I ever go there again

Nope. It's only on the foot. And it's not much at all. I'd smoke it if I wasn't worried it was all inside

And actually just looked again and the blotches are pretty much gone from the previous scrub I gave with my thumb.

I believe it to be mold but if it were only the tip I'd snip it and smoke em.

Meh. I'm jaded anyway. If I smoked em I'd be all weirded out about em without enjoying em. I'm taking em back tomorrow with a smug look on my face

Ok, so I looked up more info cause I really wanted to smoke and Anejo with my rum tonight. I found that they are not necessarily ruined/lost. I wouldn't have worried about it if I hadn't forgotten them when I was in the area today. Anyhow, I clipped the foot very close and there was nothing else there. Most likely the problem had just started to take hold. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone not smoking a HTS (have to smoke). But just like vintage cigar smokers feel like it's an issue that can be reasonably dealt with, so do I. It tastes good to me. I'll never pass one along. And they are currently in segregation housing.

to be fair, he;s not actually going to die... right away... there's some funky stuff growing inside his lungs though... they'll start to feel heavy over the next 24 hours and then they'll start to feel itchy, and then he'll probably have bronchitis for a few weeks...

Spores, beetle eggs, pollen, bug crap, wiped my a$$ and didn't wash my hands torcedor, adds to the distinctive flavor profile, it's all by products of burning leaf. Glad you saved them and they rest are quarantine. Enjoy.

Let the jealousy begin. I'm halfway through and this beast and that rum are lighting me up just right. If I die from this I want my family to know it wasn't from cigarettes. Yummy sweet creamy dream. Not as good as a woman, but damm good son

Mycologically speaking, you should make yourself aware of the potential risks. You don't want to be sneezing mycelium.

What does that mean? I'm lost.

well yes, but it's the bronchitis that will kill him and technically not the mold...
