It pisses me off, but doesn't make me want to stop getting up and going to work.

No matter what, I will always be responsible for me and mine. F*** these other ass holes. Makes me 100% certain to be voting on November 4th, too.

VOTE people... it's the ONLY way we'll get the attention of the politicians. That or millions in campaign contributions... which also needs reform.

#1 what abuses are they discussing?

I cant "click" on links on a smart phone.

My guess is 50% of the recipients really need it and don't abuse it.
30% are scamming(mis reporting income)
And need it but are lying on the forms.
A full 20% are just outright abusing it and selling them for cash or trading for drugs and alcohol money.

I'm all about eliminating any government assistance that goes over and above transitional services except for those who are totally unable to take care of themselves such as severely disabled and infirm.

So not only is SNAP a good place to start, but one should dig deeper into the USDA's budget. How about eliminating subsidies for allowing farm land to be dormant

IIRC, there was a report somewhere that indicated many 200-600 acre farms are the result of people who acquired those lands at no cost due to the various homestead acts over the past couple hundred years. Those lands were acquired at no monetary cost. And now, the guberment is paying those landowners not to farm. In many cases, those lands are still being assessed at a much lower farm rate even though some are in the 'burbs where landowners not considered farmers have to pay a higher assessment.

In addition, for years farmers have been guaranteed minimum pricing for certain commodities.

I'm not trying to pick sides, just trying to point out there are lots of mouths feeding off the government till.

No worries Paul. It's getting close to the point where there will be more consumers of assistance than contributors. Before long, there won't be enough tax dollars to pay the benefits.

That won't stop the Dems from printing more $$ and sinking us further into irrecoverable debt. Of course I believe that is what these socialists currently running things want, they'll still be wealthy and cared for while everyone else will be standing in soup lines.

I think, and I may be wrong, that all the "perks" we give to our elected officials such as health plans that continue for them and their family even after they "retire," that the ordinary guy can only dream about, free postage and stationary, junkets at taxpayer expense and much more, it would dwarf everything in the federal budget except perhaps the military, Social Security and Medicare.
But you have a valid complaint. The problem is that all these abusers are also voters so we are not likely to see any changes. Sickquot;

Cannot argue your point@ all, our elected officials are just as bad in regards to " Taking from the hard working taxpayers" as those who refuse to try to support themselves! Worse really as they're guilty for BOTH problems as they give themselves raises / perks etc. While also giving away OUR hard earned money to MANY who simply don't deserve it Brick wall I personally think that their salaries etc. should be reviewed and approved by the voting public via some sort of public forum.
