Bear, weigh in...
Feel bad for Greece. I have some great friends from Athens. 25% unemployment in Greece, the news said about an hour ago.

Their debt seems to be a drop in the bucket compared to other nations.

I can't seem to wrap my head around how that one small nation will bring down the rest . . .

Honestly, the market drop seems to be a knee jerk reaction to me. If Greece defaults and goes off of the Euro it should have minimal effect here.

Greece is going bankrupt, so is Puerto Rico.

Now what do they have in common with us... Think

Oh yeah... huge debt, high taxes on the working folks, so they can hand it out to the sick, lame, and lazy. Hold onto your hats, folks... Gonz

Greece is just getting what they have coming from many years of deficit spending and kicking the can down the road. Just like many Euro socialist countries.

The good 'ol USA is not far from that future either but you won't hear any concrete agenda to address it from any of the candidates.

I totally agree, DED. That's one reason I posted this - what's our national deficit now?

I actually get calls and e-mails on due dates, especially from Freddie Mac's girlfriend Sallie Mae. What would happen if certain countries did that to the USA?

As of today; July 6, 2015; Greek voters, at the urging of their leftist president, have overwhelmingly turned down the deal offered by their European creditors. Having done so, the Greeks have virtually guaranteed bank failures, unemployment and vast food and energy shortages. Admittedly, the "offer" was strong medicine, but it is certainly preferable to what now faces the Greek nation.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the people who deposited Euros and will probably get back drachmas.

This isn't just Greece's fault.

The banks damn well knew Greece couldn't afford those loans. Get people addicted and give them what they want, then take it away. Drug dealers and bankers have alot in common, well except jail.

It's NOT Greece's fault? Then, pray tell, who employs most of the people and gives them fantastic, almost unbelievable benefits as well as pensions? I'll answer that by telling you that Greece has a socialist, "nanny-state" government. With few exceptions, most of the goods used and sold in Greece come from foreign sources. Without cash to pay for them and no credit, there will be shortages of food, medicine, fuel, clothing and manufactured goods. Banks will close and depositors will lose most, if not all of their money, which would be useless anyway, with the skyrocketing inflation that is sure to follow. After that will be mass unemployment, starvation and civil unrest. Not a pretty picture.

Apparently the Greeks think they can better handle the problem on their own. They will be more likely to accept the dire consequences.
