I think they are stuck with him and can't risk him going third party.

Trump has taken advantage of the immense confusion in the GOP. The GOP is too set in there "No" ways to figure out they had (still have?) an opportunity created by the Trump confusion. If they weren't so busy trying to 'stop' Trump, maybe they'd have found a way to 'use' Trump and all the trumpers (and trumpettes) that he's bringing to the party.

I think this explains it well, the GOP should have tried to embrace Trump and mold him a bit. But then again, molding Donald is easier said than done..

The GOP doesn't want Trump upsetting the marriage made in hell they have with the democrats.

The old GOP insiders better embrace the libertarian leaning* of current voters or go to he||.

* i.e., Forget changing gay marriage, abortion, school prayer etc, it's not the government's business and start creating balanced budgets.

the "No"Doctrine started 8 years before they even knew Trump would run. They had 8 years to prepare for this election.
Makes it hard to believe they could possibly lead the country if they couldn't create a candidate in nearly a decade!

Wasted all that time trying to say "No" to Obama instead of working on solutions.

They want to go all the way to the mat saying "NO!"...let them.

Then when the adults get in and they have to sit on their hands and pout maybe they can think about it in time out corner.

The Kochs and their network of "charitable foundations" are afraid of Trump. I'm betting they will do all they can to stop him.

The GOP should worry about stopping Hillary, not Trump.

The GOP doesn't care if Hillary wins because she's basically a pro-choice Republican. If by some miracle Bernie gets the Dem nomination, the GOP will have a change of heart and start supporting Trump.

I disagree borndead, if anything the GOP wouldn't care because Clinton knows how to play politics; she's not stubborn and is willing to compromise and make trades to get what she wants.

And they probably think she would be better than having to deal with Trump or Cruz.

It is just the reality. At best we vote for the people that choose the winner, and they are not necessarily tied to our vote. The primaries change periodically but the electoral college is designed to protect us from our own ignorance and hysterics of the day. It was pretty smart actually if you actually believe there is a layer that knows better (debatable, but the common electorate are morons as demonstrated in here every day LOL... relax I didn't really mean it LOL but our founding fathers did). It is also amazing to me that some cling to the great wisdom of out founding fathers until it gets to this point.

It could be argued it is here to protect us from Trumps of history. The primary and/or convention is just another convenient layer designed for much the same reason.

You can vote for whomever you like until it doesn't match up nicely, then the "establishment will take over. It was intentionally designed this way.

You can vote for the Pink Panther if you like. If the Pink Panther would happen to win it would be replaced by someone more suitable. If they don't you feel like you had a vote. This is especially true when the person you voted for wins. You think you had a part in it. Congratulations!
