Just as the Old GOP (i.e. McConnell, McCain, Jeb, Rubio, Cruz, etc...) miscalculated the Tea Party they have miscalculated Trump. I think that they all have to get on the chit wagon that is Trump or they will wither and die on the Old GOP vine. fog horse

the tea party became the establishment when the began calling the old establishment RINOS. Now they (Rubio, Cruz etc) are the establishment and suck balls. Trump played the apprentice and won so far. He'll get beat by Dennis Rodman in the final though.

The Problem is the Extremist Conservatives don't live in the Real World. This country is about all the People and Trump will represent that better than the Hacks. I think he wins easy..

Teedubya I think you're WAY off base.

The tea party was co-opted when Dïck Army got involved. The establishment saw the tidal wave and muddied the water to poison the well.

The other thing that co-opted the tea party was the religious right taking over thinking their "beliefs" were more important than liberty and freedom.

More ancillary, the "occupy" movement cared more about crapping on cop cars instead of finding common ground with the liberty crowd.

Zrx I was actually just stirring. In reality I never found the tea party to be republicans at all. It was just the closest mechanism to them to try to claim legitimacy rather than just being another third party which is what they really were. The arrogance of them calling life long republicans rinos is rich.

Again I disagree, the majority of tea party folks were disenfranchised republicans. The GOP has lost its way and it's pissed different groups of R voters off for various reasons.

they called themselves the tea party. that's a different party that would have been a small third party. You can't glob on to another party for your purposes and then call the people in that party not really part of the party. The tea partiers were the real rinos . The establishment was/is the party by definition. They are the established Rs. In effect they are revolting against the establishment, which is/was the party. I take no issue with that. go form your party and run on it's merits. Or work within to change parts the party in a constructive way. Thats very different than what the tea party did which does not include a 100% adherence to what we want or you are not one of us.

As for the Republicans shame on them for getting greedy and using the tea party for short term gain while not really embracing it. It's disingenuous and deserves the contempt it gets.

Disenfranchised republicans forming another party = no longer being republican. You disagree with the party and formed something different. Reagan was a disenfranchised democrat and joined the republicans. He didn't call himself a democrat anymore and he was right to leave them. The tea partiers should just go their own way, they may very well be right. But to call republicans rinos is silly. I truly hope both parties fracture apart and we end up with better choices.
