R.I.P. Matthew Gerald - Baton Rouge City Police Officer - Less than 1 Year of Service
R.I.P. Brad Garafola - East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputy - 24 Years of Service

Officer's Injured

Bruce Simmons - Fair Condition - East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputy - 23 Years of Service
TBA - Baton Rouge City Police Officer (Former EBRSO deputy)

Please pray for these brave officers.

Police Officer's Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

There was a press conference that just ended. Participating was Gov. Edwards, Mayor Holden, State Police Superintendent Edmonson, Sherriff Gautreaux, Cheif Dabide, US Attorney Green and FBI SAC Sallet.

The officers were ambushed. The shooter chose to stalk officers at a BQuik store/Benny's Carwash. This etablishment is very LEO friendly. Officers can go there. They are given complimentary drinks and food. They also have their cars washed there. The SO has an extra duty detail there as well as another location about 5 miles north. I've worked the detail at the other location. Brad Garafola was the deputy in charge of that detail. He had worked the shift that ended at 8:00. He hadn't left yet because he was waiting on his wife who was coming to meet him for breakfast.

A lady notified Officers at the store of a guy outside wearing all black, body armor, a mask and a helmet outside. The officers went to investigate. One of the officers was shot. Brad ran to him to render aid. The shooter reappeared from another location and shot Brad. Then he walked over the city officer and fire 2 more shots from close range.

Nick Tullier and Bruce Simmons who were about a mile away heard Brad broadcast the situation over his radio. They responded. Nick was shot in the head and abdomen. He is currently in ICU in very critical condition. Bruce was shot in the arm. He had surgery yesterday afternoon. He will need at least one more surgery. From what I was told his humerus was shattered. Bruce went home a couple hours ago.

The shooter was shot from about 100 yds away by a BRPD SWAT member.

All officers shot ran to the threat. They are truly heroes.

Out of respect for his privacy I'm not going to name the injured city officer unless he's publicly identified.

I've reached out to to family members of the deputies. I don't personally know any of the BRPD officers, but I reached out to friends on the BRPD force. As soon as I hear something I'll post it.

Thanks

you know I told you why I have not posted on these (too many) threads, my concern of expressing gut wrenching emotions ending up belittled in a pile of jokes as the thread winds down. Not knocking our group ways and humor, but I can't open up here as I normally would.

Anthony, I don't know how you are carrying on with this burden weighing so heavily. I admire and respect you and your brothers and sisters that protect all of us.

Be safe.

thanks T. And I don't want this place to change, just don't want to get my deepest feelings diluted.
I'm heart sick about all of this.

"Bushwacked" badly...

I SAY " NO MERCY" for these sick COWARDs
Killing police officers.

Shoot first when perpetrators are fully recognized
And cornered, NO MERCY.
