BANGKOK – Election officials in northern Thailand think they can buy off a gang of monkey vandals with fresh fruit and vegetables, after about 100 macaques tore up voter lists publicly posted ahead of next month's referendum on a proposed constitution.

Phichit election official Prayoon Jakkraphatcharakul said if feeding the monkeys did not deter them, then newly installed sliding glass doors might - if they don't figure out how to open them.

Prayoon speculated that the pink color of the voter lists for the Aug. 7 referendum might have attracted the animals.

SmokeMonkey, I'm sorry for the overall tone of this thread and the apparent general lack of respect for simians.

When we look at the long term accomplishments of Cornelius, Zira and Dr. Zaius it is plan we should all have more reverence.

What would Charilston Heston think?

Cornelius wrote to: "Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him, for he is the harbinger of death."

- So I reckon he didn't much like Axl....

And to think they were giving those dogs a hard time for chewing off little monkey arms......they were probably hand signaling the apes in the adjacent enclosure. Revolution averted.
