I saw this asked in another group. Didn't get an answer.

Foundry and Macanudo use it.. it appears.

For instance:

Anyone know anything about all the new releases added today with "G.S.E" and "S.E." added to the titles? Or, the new ones from AJ Fernandez brands that have words added, like "Black," "White," "Royal" "Gold" etc.?

I've got to assume these are blends that may never see the shelves because of the FDA deeming rule set to come down in 4 days. They may be trying to release as many that they've already got in stock or have committed to carry and sell. Just my take on it.

That is exactly what CBid told me. Then it occured to me that while it makes sense for newly named releases, I don't see what explains the use of exactly the same name as a prior release with just SE or GSE added?

It could mean that perhaps there was a change in the blend.

That's exactly my concern. If there is only a minor tweak, like simply a minimal change of proportions, as opposed to a different wrapper or tobacco being used, then I am not interested in the dozens of "new" CBid "debuts." A minor tweak may suffice for getting around the pending FDA regs, but I believe they shld let us know as a matter of good biz practice and ethics. Although I'd still be sympathetic to the cause, it wld be even more questionable if a simple packaging or name change allows them to survive FDA stupidity, but being intentionally mislead is immoral and unnecessary.

Just a quick thought from a newbie. I am not a lawyer but I deal with lots of legal issues in my "day job" I am wondering if this GSE, SE, LE etc..... is an attempt by the small cigar companies (boutiques) to claim that all their different blends (which by new law would each have to be individually tested and approved/disapproved @ about a quarter million per blend) are actually just one blend with little or at least not enough difference to require that each cigar need individual testing. That is just an off the cuff thought. Otherwise if the boutique cigars have to be tested individually no way they can afford to stay in business. We BOTL have an interesting few years ahead of us. JMHO. Swedelo

Good point. I was also speculating something similar...as a way to get around this bogus FDA bs.
It will be very interesting...man...I'd hate to see all these boutique brands fall under.

Well all the letters seem to have lots of bidders confused. Me put down a few $1 bids but me's not going to be suckered into dropping a hundy on a slew of stuff that may or may not be good. Me's spent years figuring out what's crap and me'll be damned if me flushes it down the toilet on some shady stuff.

Me thinks this is just an experiment or a way to get rid of a bunch of stuff.

This gets more bizarre by the moment! Do a search on CI for "g.s.e." and there are samplers which include a host of the "new" cigars but ALL are backordered! Did anyone see these an available and in-stock? Even more weird is that none of the individual cigars have listings anywhere other than those samplers. I will be returning anything I get under this guise if they aren't unique!

The "g.s.e." thing being some kind of FDA reaponse makes a lot of sense, but its odd that it is only being used here and (sort of) on CI. No other site using this designstion, not even cigarDOTcom (figure its OK to mention them not only because of common ownership but since there are "cigarDOTcom" cigars for sale on cbid now!)

You would think if this was from the cigar manufacturer, other sites would be using it as well and the if this was something the retailer just thought up, it would be in the other site as well.

Being that most G.S.E offerings are from General Cigar with different box counts than non G.S.E. offerings which often don't show photos.....maybe...um......"General Seconds Edition"

I'm not buying that it would be "General Seconds Edition" mainly on the basis that Dunhill is owned by BAT not GCC there were a couple others I noticed as well.

If you're paying attention these boxes typically appear to be unreleased vitolas. Perhaps they were test run cigars or stuff that was shelved.

Additionally we saw a run of auctions from the Partagas 100's anniversary lines some of which haven't been released since the early 90's. My thought is that they're just clearing obscure inventory that hasn't been sold in order to cut a loss or make room for new stock.

If I am right, some of these smokes could be pretty well aged if they have had long production runs with multiple changes in vitola.

Perhaps the FDA ruling may be at play but what explains Cbid flooding the grandfathered 'gars out to market?

Manufacturer sites don't even list em. Just the line names, not counting the gse label.

Gotta be a quick pump n dump type thing.

ZRX is probably having coffee and a Padron, sitting at the table, waiting for his mommy to bring him pancakes.
I suspect they will talk about it over breakfast, and he'll post something later in the day.

When my Pilon "gse" order gets here will grab a couple "regular" ones from the B&M to compare.
