Ernie Carillo's reintroduction of El Rico Habano has become one of my favorite cigars. It's full bodied, complex, and well constructed. The new version, which was introduced in the past year, comes without cello, irrespective of size. As many of you know, Ernie struggled for years trying to get his blend back on track after producing several versions of ERH that were just awful, and were frequently closed out at bargain prices. Currently there are three or four versions of ERH floating around. Two have received rave reviews; the others, panned unmercifully. If you have ERH that have two stripes on the band, you have beautifully aged (3+years) cigars in Carillo's original blend. If you have boxed uncelloed ERH, you have the wonderful new blend. But...if you're buying celloed, red banded ERH, you may have acquired cigars that are not representative of the fine cigars Senor Carillo is currently making. Most of the celloed ERH currently on the market are not of superior quality. They were produced during the boom and are being liquidated. If you've smoked an ERH that came with cello, and thought, "Yech...terrible" try one of the new ones. They are cigars that are miles apart.

Steve, I was lucky and Ernesto sent me 2 of the new Club in a beautiful little 2 cigar coffin. I haven't tried them yet but you're building my anticipation.

Got a nice stash of the new blend...and they are among my favorite "every day" smokes...I bought a few a couple of months ago at my local shop (have only recently seen them on Cbid) and they were very nice after a few months in the humi--nice full bodied flavor. I'll be letting a handful rest for 6 months to see how they develop---VSGs could have a bonafide rival...at less then half the price.

BMW: In recent days I had occasion to purchase a couple of celloed ERH Habano Clubs from a closeout bowl at a local shop. I, frankly, was amazed at how different a cigar the new production is. My local guy, for some odd reason, carries La Gloria, but refuses to carry ERH. The celloed variety that he bought, he says he bought from a jobber who deals only in closeouts. If you like a full flavored, full bodied smoke, you'll love the cigars that Ernie is sending you.

Steve, just finished the Club. It started a little rough, but the burn evened out and the smoke mellowed into a rich and tasty treat. Oily little sucker. Barry

I've had a couple of the older blends that were just strong. No flavor, just strong, harsh smokes. I now have a couple of the newer that I have trepidation for trying. One day.

Smoked both of the Habano Club that I received from the free 2 pack sample, and thought they were great. I'll be buying a box sometime soon.

BMW:"It started a little rough..." Yes, the first inch tends to be a surprise. There's more power than you might expect. I've found that there are several cigars that present an atypical 1/2 to 1 inch then settle down. Cuba Aliados is a prime example. The first half inch, while far from powerful, makes you wonder what the cigar is made of, but then it settles down to a very pleasureable smoke.
