He willingly and frequently lied to his own supporters, promising things his presidency didn't have the power to accomplish, and providing vague hyperbole rather than specifics.
Make no mistake, he has the house and the Senate now. His supporters should hold his feet to the fire. There is no reason he can't give them everything he promised. No one is there to stand in his way.
I know the US will be fine. This isn't the end of the world. It's a sad reflection on a lot of hate that people seem to have held. But America will be fine. Odds are those most hurt by a Trump presidency will be those who voted for him. I'll be fine. Probably better off.
But I hope he does better than he promised he would. I hope that when actual problems face him he won't treat them the same way he's treated adversity on the campaign trail (poorly and unpresidentially). We will see.
But if things go south, the Republicans have no one to blame but themselves.
I didn't vote for him either; but I don't honestly think he's an idiot. I don't think he could have gotten as far in business as he has, if were a fool. I do think that he lost control of his mouth all too often, and even when you're playing the non-politician...well, he should have known how things were going to be construed....even if he generally works from hyperbole.
I worry most about your comment about the hate. I heard some rather scary commentary the past 12 hours along the same lines. I think that there was a good-sized basket of deplorables out there singing his praises, but I also think it is dangerous or stupid to paint the movement/groundswell/Trumpers....etc with such a broad brush. He may have used some trailer rhetoric and low denominator language to get the votes, but I know full well that the vast majority of those that voted for him are NOT turned on by the hatred or antagonistic fear, xenophobia, etc.
Christie aside, he's liable to surround himself with some level-headed quality people.
That's not to say that I don't think he's capable of blowing up a boat or plane of some country that pisses him off...but I think that if cooler heads can prevail for the next few weeks, he'll possibly be a better uniter than a divider
