I've been thinking about a coolerdor. I watched a Cigar Obsession video on how he uses his. He seems to insist on it being full. Any insight into this?

Thx.

I can't afford to keep my house at 70 degrees during the summer so I only use my coolidors during the the cooler months.

He didn't really explain why. I'm not sure how a half full coolerdor would effect boxes and loose sticks.
If I can find a good explaination, it will determine the size cooler I buy.

A guy at a B&M in Austin says some of his customers throw a few boxes in an igloo along with some Boveda packs and duct tape the damn thing up to rest a few years. Seems like it would need to be opened now and again for circulation???

Yeah, not sure on the whole duct tape thing. . . Some air exchanges seem like a good idea.

A full coolidor is technically a more "stable" environment than a half full because the cigars have a better ability to hold humidity and temperature than air does. Think of the cigars acting as a heat or humidity sink. . .

But as the ole saying goes, figure out how much space you think you need and double it, then you can fill that too. . . Kind of like money, no matter how much you have, you find a way to spend it, no matter the humidor space we always seem to find a way to fill it. . .

not sure how far off your house is from 70, but a couple of degrees, with proper humidity and properly prepared(freezing) won't make a big difference. My house is 72-75 year round and no problems with my coolidor. Not any different than a cabinet from that regard.

If temp is truly an issue at your house, are you using a winedor or off site storage?

Yes, empty cigar boxes can provide a good spanish cedar element to the coolidor, as well as being really handy for organization. . .

Keep the house at 80 during the summer.

Why would someone seal empty cigar boxes in an ice chest with Bovedas for years? The plastic won't "cure".

If you ever go the Icebox Route, be aware 1st of all, I remember watching that video 2 years ago and now... you might never make it out of that rabbit hole.

Icebox + CBID = OH FOOOCK - $$$$$$

number 2, what illinichaser said. with humidors and iceboxes, the humidity stays more true to your source of humidity then if it was half full. meaning, if you put Boveda 69 in ur box, u will notice a difference in humidty between half empty and full. i definitely notice in my wooden humidors. my iceboxe's haven't been half empty for 2 years so i guess i wouldn't know.

good luck!

i have used many ways to set up ice box. but finally settled to, empty cigar boxes and cut up CI/CBID Baggies. A boveda 60g for each box and some CI/CBID black ice in the corners and digital hygrometer....

ALSO, highly recommend... there is a guy namadio on here? he has picture of his icebox and he ordered custom trays... HIGHLY RECOMMEND... i have random empty cigar boxes and since they are not all the same, trying to put back your boxes after sifting through ur stash is like.... well, i don't want to even think about it...

get trays. stash cigars and sift through with ease.... for your own sanity.

WTF...... I got enough cigars to fill one of those little cloth type 6 pack carry cooler things that looks like a fanny pack.... That count?Blink I got to figure out how the hell you ladies are able to stash so damn many. I think all you bastids own a small B&M shop in your basements. I should have taken up golfing, would have been a hell of allot cheaper. Yep I am way out of my league. d'oh!. I think I will go back to long range bench rest comps. Hell even ammo is not that damn expensive and that hobby is something I know allot about and could hold my own. Besides I already have a stash of 7mm ulta mag and 300 ultra mag casings along with lead and primers. Brick wall

PS: Will take some one out for a cigar lmaoooooooo :-" :-" :-" :-"

I can't relate to ammo, but i don't think Golf would be cheaper then cigars... my wife thought it was better for me to pick up cigars and then reduce golf costs... HA HA... HA HA HA HA.... if golf had yelp rating it be like...

Hahahaha, well to reduce ammo cost reloading is the way to go, also when shooting comps, custom reloads was the only way to stay consistent. At 1k yards a fly fart will make you miss. Here in Memphis I can get a full set of clubs for 25 bucks at good will lmaooo.. Granted you have to straighten out the shafts with a ball ping hammer. Then I send the son out to the course at night with a bucket and make him dive the water traps to get free balls while I keep security occupied with my fanny pack cooler of dog rockets. See for a disabled stroke guy who has lost 1/4th of his brain, I am thinking ahead lmaooooooo....

Ahhh the wife just came in with my construction paper, safety scissors, elmers glue and a bag of dried macaroni noodles... Its Art Time. Be back soonAnxious Drool
