I was just purchasing some more Macallan 12 yr when I noticed a new Macallan bottle I'd never seen. Macallan 12yr "Cask Strenght." I was intrigued but at the same time it was a hard sell since it was $16 more than the regular Macallan. Has anyone tried this? I would like some opinions/reviews to see if it's worth the extra $$$ chris

Slim - I normally drink a good single malt or bourbon while I smoke cigars, so yes it is related to cigars. Wanted to see how this tasted, maybe it would pair better with a stronger than regular M12 since it sounds like a more robust single malt. Just asking for opinions and reviews regardless of the place it was posted. chris

Chris I haven't tasted this scotch myself but I do agree this post belongs on the cigars and related board. Until somebody at C-bid (ie:not Slimboli) tells me otherwise,I will continue to post about my cigar experiences including when and where I smoke as well as other hobbies I may enjoy while smoking cigars or not.

cwilhelmi,

I've not tried it either but really am a fan of "the Macallan."

Did you check to see if it was an actual Macallan bottling? Some times, other venders buy Macallan and bottle it under theirs and Macallan's name. This goes on a lot, especially with Macallan and other top names.

Also, I've found that the cask strength is indeed much stronger and higher alky hall as well! Being a wimp that way, I usually need to add about a 1/4 teaspoon of distilled water to take the "bite" out of it, AYE!!!

PS--was in "Lost Wages" this last weekend for a wedding and enjoyed a nice 18 year($33 !@#$%^ shot) Macallan and a cigar with my new brother-in-law. At $66 bucks plus tip, I could've had the entire phuking bottle for just a few dollars more!! Oh well, so it goes...next time I bring my own in my wee little flask!

Let us know how the cask strength is if you decide to try it.

jd1 - it was Macallan, same packaging and everything, just a different color. It looked dark and lovely!! I'll have to splurge!

JD1, zowie they stuck it to ya' in Vegas. I've been a Mac fan for years and anything new is worth the splurge. The other night I tried a few of the Islay (I-la) malts and I'd highly recommend giving Bowmore or Bunnahabain (bun-a-bin)a try. They were both excellent and had great smooth flavor without being overpowering or medicinal. The 'gars really paired well.
