So not applauding at a state of the union address is treasonous. What a joke.

there've been two public ceremonies where his VP, cabinet and members of Congress looked like they were trying to outdo one another in their flattery of Trump...

example: "thank you, dear master, for allowing me to be a part of the greatest Presidency ever"

kinda creepy and reminiscent of meetings with Chairman Mao at the height of the Cultural Revolution, when he was publicly executing his enemies...

Well.. to be fair they have worked in a bipartisan bill with the republicans to deal with DACA this past week. But Trump is already saying he wouldn't approve it.

That doesn't mean they actually care... but they're willing to draft a bipartisan bill.

If course.... it's shutdown week again. Seems like we went thru this just a month ago...

So when a man in a crowd yells it out and he repeats it so the rest of the audience can hear what was said but CNN chooses to only air and state it originated from the President then your little minds are blown.

Cue the butthurt.

A good president would have taken that moment to inform the person that disagreement with the president isn't treasonous.

A mediocre president would ignore them.

A sh1tty president would repeat them and then say something to the extent of "can we call that treason? Why not?"

No question it was moronic. But, those feigning outrage are all people who already 'know' he's moronic.

To suggest that its a "greater danger to the long-term health of the American system than a 4.6 percent drop in the Dow Jones", as the Washington Post does, is just as moronic.

Trump was at a campaign rally, right smack dab in the middle of his base. DMV is right; he was echoing someone from the crowd. This shouldn't surprise ANYONE. It is the exact same Trump that we've seen every single time he veers from the teleprompter. No more; no less; no more 'harm'..than any other dumbazz Trumpism. So, he's exactly what we should have come to expect by now....not sure why its 'news'. Relax....come back with your concern when he STOPS being Trump

... an argument that "we all knew he was going to do something moronic like that" isn't exactly a reason to shut up.

Every instance of this moronic president needs to be identified and preserved for posterity.

Victor, I'm sure you've never faced a convincing reason to shut up. I wouldn't even try.

In my head, I was thinking that the WaPo outrage was over the top....and that this 'occurrence' didn't really need its own thread....but, wth.....why not...but, IMO, this is/was not a bfd

It has to be a big deal. Even if we're tired of it.

Honestly... do you want to live in a country where the president being an absolute moron and saying opposing politicians are "treasonous" for not clapping for him (yes, he was repeating, but he reinforced it himself) isn't an issue for people?

When the orange moron gets his second term (because I believe he will) we need to keep pointing out where he's a moron. And when the next absolute idiot is elected (because the criteria for president has now been lowered to "reality star" criteria, the next president is going to be as bad or worse than this moron, D or R)... we will need to keep pointing out the ridiculous sh#t they do and say.

Because if you don't, then you deserve what happens next.

Except, that it starts to look like TDS...and you miss, or ignore, or neglect the things that have a positive impact.....and you end up being a mouthpiece for the opposing morons.

I didn't vote for Trump. I don't respect him and I dislike 90% of what comes out of his mouth. But, I don't think that most of it is harmful, except in sometimes being divisive. But the TDS's are just as much to blame for divisiveness.

That said, I still think its entirely possible that the country will be better off in 2024 than we were in 2016.....whether because of or despite Trump, I'm not certain -- but I'm not going to waste my time shouting "Hey, Look!! Trump is being Trump!"

I've actually said in the past when he has done something I liked (intentionally or unintentionally). But if it happens so rarely that most of what is pointed out is his absolute moronic statements, is that really my fault?

Guess what happens when our populace becomes inured to the absolute idiocy that he spouts? When no one says "dude your're abso-f#cking-lutely wrong" when he says something moronic... if no one points it out, more idiots believe him. More people will take the word of the president as actually true.

He said "can we call that treason? Why not!"... or something to that extent. That's reinforcing and amplifying a message which is simply wrong....

It isn't the first time that an elected leader says something moronic and/or authoritarian that we really have to worry about.

It's the 500th time, when everyone is too tired to argue about it, and it has become the new normal that we have to worry.

He's wearing everyone down... normal, rational cbid people (not the tcbys, or the quacks) would rather not hear people complain about the president saying something which they themselves would have been ready to fire up the generator in the survival bunker and load their guns if they heard obama or clinton say in previous years.

... let that sink in.

They are more bothered by the constant complaining about the crap said, than the fact that the crap keeps getting said.

That's really messed up, and gives me very little hope for better future leaders. T

Yep...he's worn out many of the CBid cons who rushed to his defense here, and were gloating in the afterglow of his election...very seldom see them around here...

it seems that the spectrum of this board has tilted more to the left after Trump became President...not as many cons and quite a few more libs than in the old Obama days eons ago...

Quacker, good to see you so to speak. So winning includes agreeing that not applauding equates to treason? Interesting concept. Could you cut and paste something to that effect? BTW, that word you used may be rather offensive to people with a Jewish heritage.

Yep... there's the Troll philosophy. "People I don't like are unhappy. That's Making America Great Again!"....

You would cheer trump on if he created internment camps for people who didn't clap. As long as it made people you don't like unhappy.

Internment camp could never happen here. Just look at our history. Um anyone oriental here? Yeah, that could never happen here.

From the January 4, 1934 issue of the Green Bay Press-Gazette

Adolf Hitler, out of prison, took advantage of the groans. He told people that he would make Germany “great” again. He blamed Jews, Socialists, Communists, and others for the troubles of the land. His blazing speeches gained followers for his “cause.”

Excerpt from the Washington post.
In 1927, Fox News Service filmed Benito Mussolini telling immigrants to 'make America great'

If this doesn't bother you I wonder what's wrong with you.

I don't actually think that an interment camp could happen here right now.... I was using it as an extreme example, because I do actually believe quack would be cheering trump on if he did put his "unamerican" detractors in internment camps.

But, the normalization of the language, the grooming of this set of followers who pride themselves on being behind him as long as he's "stiggin it" to the people they don't like. ... this stuff brings us closer to the time that it will be possible.

If we don't point out what he says is wrong, and not befitting a president of the USA, then it becomes "acceptable" by default. Just like anyone who doesn't say anything when their friend spouts off with a bunch of "n-word" slurs... your silence is tacit agreement, and tells them that it's acceptable.
