Ok, I live in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath Victorian style house about 3500 square feet by myself. I am looking to put in a den, where I can enjoy my cigars when the weather sucks. I am currently smoking on my front porch in 34 degree weather, thus the idea. Any thoughts on how to handle the smell of the cigar smoke? I am all ears on this one.

I personally use my garage. She is insulated and I have it heated via a propane tank heater for winter time. This works out great for me as it keeps the cigar smell out of the house and gives me a comfortable place to sit and even decorate cigar stuff if I wish. I have a nice little table and chairs out there along with a couple of cigar ashtrays. A little flat screen, some bluetooth speakers that tie in to any bluetooth device for music or TV, a small fridge for my drinks and anyones beer if they so feel inclined, all the man tools incase I feel the need to get my balls back for an hour or 3 instead of the wife carrying them around in her purse. Just my prefered place of being.

Edit: I forgot to answer your question lol. I like the Ozone devices that take smell out of the air. I have used these while working with acetone and collodion in the medical field. They work great IMHO.

To do it right, it is going to cost some dollars.
Been a few threads on this topic.
I did a cheapo attempt at a shed conversion..........epic fail.

You live alone in a house that size, and you've stated you like being single..........so just pick a room upstairs.....tighten up the door seal........take out all carpet and fabric furniture and curtains, and replace with leather and wood..........get a decent in- window air exchange system/AC unit........and call it good.

All by yourself in a 3500 sq ft house. Are you asking for permission to smoke a cigar? Do you sit down to pee?

Man the F up. Grow a pair and smoke em if ya gots em. Unless your mommy is coming over to cook your dinner and she'll spank you for smoking.

DR Mad Vibes, let me say this, the house I own has been in my family since the late 1800’s, when I pass on, it will go to my son, Thus the reason I want to take care of it. I am 4th generation and my son will be 5th. I don’t want to leave a house he has to renovate because of me.

Ahh. Now there is your mistake....

Pop your titty out da boys mouth. Let him worry about him when the time comes. He is more than likely going to tear the house down and build a pig farm. You do for you now.

Lmao a study/ Den is synonymous with man cave, the entire house is my man cave. I even have an entire room devoted to reloading.

So, if you see a room labeled powder room, please refrain from smoking in it, it ain’t a place to powder your nose. I build custom bullets there.

Heat/AC, computer and a recliner in the attached garage. Exhaust setup over smoking area ducted outside.

If youre worried about the smell, no matter what you do it's going to spread throughout the house.

I have a room with a couple recliners, a TV, and a coffee table set up. I had a QuietCool whole house fan installed in that room.

Open a window in a different room, and turn on the fan... sucks up everything into the attic and blows it out the vents. When I smoke in that room with the fan running... you can't even tell. The only drawback is if it's hot or cold outside, you're sucking in hot or cold air.

I have a man cave 12x14 and a reloading room 8x10.........wish both were bigger.I just seal off the door in my man cave, open a window, place fan in window facing outside.I do intend to add a fan that will pull smoke into the attic........just haven't gotten round to it.

What caliber do you reload for?Me I've all but stopped reloading for my handguns,I have thousands of rounds stored.I love to reload for my rifles 25-06,308 and my toy 30-30.

Forgot all about the shotguns........I throw maybe 3-400 12 gauge rounds together every year right before dove season.I probably go through more shells during early teal and duck season but I never took a shine to loading the lead alternates.........I just buy a case or two a year.

So, you're telling me you're the FIRST one in all those years to entertain the thought of smoking?

Is there running water and electricity in the place?

Gimmie a break..."Its for the kids" excuse. Live your life or don't. Just don't log on and cry about it.

At any point did I cry? Hmm, if this is your idea of my life, then you are a sad excuse of a human being and I could care less about your opinion. To see such negativity in an individual is very saddening. But then again, I may live on the now, whilst looking to procure a proper future, at least I don’t whine about it. If you don’t like me, too bad. I don’t really care. I live my life on my own terms and to hell with anyone else’s opinion. I started this thread looking for options. I have received a few along with criticisms, none of which are warranted or with merit. So, to coin a phrase from my generation, Bite Me. There, enough said.

Good lord DMV you have issues.

I could smoke in my car but I don't. I don't like the smoke and the film when I am not smoking. I also don't always want to smell like smoke which I will if my clothes come in contact with the car. Same with my house. I smoke outside. I don't want my house to always smell like old cigar smoke and the walls and furniture to have a film. Smoking is dirty.

I've never really understood folks that think their way is the only way and anyone not doing it that way is somehow wrong or less. It's really small.

I had a buddy who had a nice old house he didn't want to smoke up. He tried a few things (ozone, fans etc.) and was never happy. He also had a pole barn where he would smoke while working on cars, guns etc. One day while he was working in there and was putting wood in the stove, he decided he would put a fireplace in his den along with a fan that sounds like MACS has. He now burns hickory in the den and smokes cigars and I don't notice it much. His den smells of rich leather and mahogany (kidding).

He has more money than he knows what to do with and does value his things enough to not want to ruin them with cigar smoke. I get it. Some people don't mind spittoons in every room of their house. To each their own..

The difference between me and the original poster is I know you are full of shiite. He had to read a post to figure it out.

The dude is asking if anyone has any ideas as to how to make his house like he chooses, not how to turn it in to a pig sty because some people like that. You offered an opinion and it was duly noted and given the consideration it deserved. Some people like dreadlocks and patchouli rather than showers and deodorant. Good on them until they judge everyone else who doesn't choose to be a walking stink pile.

and welcome cathcam. Strap in and enjoy the ride. We are all brothers here. This is just how we talk to each other.

TW ALL you know is what you're little pigeonholed mind tells you.

The "dude" lives in a 3500 sq ft house by himself...I know I didn't miss that part. Who is he going to offend? His right hand? If anyone is full of $hit its him and you. Him for asking a stupid question like that...despite the fact he, and I didn't miss this part...is doing it for an heirloom BUT has a room devoted to autoloading. You, for backing the stupidity to take a run at me.

Take your own advice! If you don't like the opinion you don't have to comment on it.

DMV, take an anger management class. It might do wonders for you. Once was funny. Everything else was boring. Cathcam can do as wanted. Um news flash Cathcam owns the house and was looking for some constructive ideas. You know, those thoughts you hear about but don't have. Is your IQ over 50?

Seriously, you really wanna go with that? You can take the clowncar TW drives to STFU town too!

In order for Mr. Catheter to pass it on he has to either get a wife/girlfriend/surrogate and have a baby (Lord help him if he has girls!) OR adopt. Now, living in a house by yourself means your are living there by yourself. Guess you and everyone else missed that tidbit.

Of course he can do as he wants, BUT he posted up here for advice and I thought it was funny as hell that a grown man that I want to believe enjoys a cigar will know what to do with a cigar. Anyone with an IQ under 50 can tell you that.

Ya know what...he should just go to his shpo and smoke shpo cigars there. He might burn himself with fire! The staff can cut and light it for him!

What a petty small minded individual you are. Do you live in mommy and daddy's basement? Go crawl under the rock you came out from under. To bad your parents didn't use the farmer, field, hunter test. How often do you dye your hair orange? You are really rather ignorant.

it was intentional

The guy takes pride in his home and wants to smoke in one area of it without ruining the rest. Yes smoke is insidious and ruins things. MACS you gave him a good option.

He already indicted he didn't just want smoke to get everywhere when he was told it doesn't matter because he lives alone etc.

he wants a clean home rather than a filthy home. unless you take certain actions, if you smoke in your home it will be filthy. He is asking for options to avoid this. DMVs wonderful advice is not to avoid it and to embrace it and STFU. That's DMVs choice, which is cool.

There is just no way to get the smell and the film out. To some that's ok. Others, like presumably the OP, don't want that. I don't want my home, clothes, car etc to smell like old cigar smoke. Some don't mind it.

DMV doesn't care. He says what he says and moves on. I also don't think he really cares or even hears what is said back to him. He likes the conflct and it doesn't phase him much. I can relate.

By the way the best way to keep the smoke from other parts of your house is to smoke with a plastic bag on your head.

Damn, I go away for a few hours and I missed all the monkey chit slinging.

On the serious side, The only way to keep the smell totally out of your home is to not smoke in it period. My advice of Ozone, the Fireplace thing they all will still have the smell from the cigars just not as strong or is just a blanket cover for a short time. It's kind of like when the Avon lady farts in the elevator and she sprays pine scent. Then it just smells like someone chit a Christmas tree. Of course this is the obvious and the only reason I am typing any of this is well, I have nothing better to do at the moment.

Now what I find really amusing is Cath and DMV got everyone else riled the hell up..... SNOWFLAKES Laugh
