On Saturday, several vegan activists gathered at a popular fishing tournament to protest eating meat.

The Wilmington Fish Save and North Carolina Farmed Animal Save organized the protest, called Vigil for Fish, to raise awareness about animal rights during the annual Wrightsville Beach Inshore Challenge, which pays out over $15,000 in cash and prizes to fishermen.

“We’re vegan activists, and we want to bring awareness to what fish go through," said protester Daniel Veber to WCET. “Look at it from this fish’s point of view. If you were in your home, you would not want a hook to be hooked in the mouth, you would not want to be pulled up, you wouldn’t have to fight hours for your life to be pulled up. It’s scary.”

The ten protesters carried signs reading “Sea life not seafood,” “fish feel pain,” and “fish want to live.”

“We want to come out for the fish," said Veber to WCET. "A lot of times, they look so different from us that you don’t really put them into a position where you give them individual status, where they are actually individuals that want to live. They don’t want to pulled out of the water, fish have families, fish want to live.”

Surprised the fishermen didn't disappear a few VEGANS and use them for "CHUM" to catch the poor fish that want to live...

Now,
On the other hand...those **** ESKIMO & INDIAN baby seal clubbers,
Japanese dolphin mammal corralers with nets and clubs,
& massive industrial
Sea trawlers that dredge the bottom and kill anything it their nets path: whales, dolphins, seals, otters ....

All those sick BASTARDS should be arrested and jailed,
Then beaten with clubs to show them what it FEELS like to the animals they kill every day...

If you want to protest animal cruelty go after those heartless killers...NOT A B.A.S.S. FISHING TOURNEMENT.

Don't vegans know?

Vegies want to live too, but these murderous monsters have no qualms about wrecking the homes of thousands of native creatures so farmers can grow countless rows of kale only to be viciously harvested and ground to mush only to be put in these murderous monsters bellies.

I think they should just quit eating all together so they're not so hypocritical...

Do a Google search, and you'll find dozens of articles on plants feeling pain. It isn't the same kind of pain animals feel, but it is discomfort none the less. Murderess vegans inflicting pain on, killing and then devouring, poor helpless plants.

I wonder what these vegans think about a poor little fish minding it's own business, when a larger fish comes along and gobbles it up? The anglers should tell the vegans that they are doing the small fish a service, by catching the larger killer fish.

Why have so many lost their freak'n minds?

... I'm going to have to call BS on plants feeling pain.
Given that they have no nervous system, to equate any stress response to "pain" is simply a bad conclusion.

Doesn't mean they can't feel pain. But it means that anyone claiming they have evidence they do is lying.

Even the idea of setting that sort of experiment up would be a challenge...you can't show stimulus avoidance, because they don't move... There is no electrical signalling that I know of .. there is chemical signalling... But there is no central organ to interpret that signal into anything close to pain...

Obviously Vegan's were never taught to fish. The petroleum-based rubber boots would give their azz a rash.

They do move, but extremely slowly. Just go into the woods, find a clearing and watch how plants and trees fight for sunlight over a period of months. No opinion on plants feeling pain, but humans feel pain when they are hungry and being omnivores we enjoy eating tasty animals so piss off PETA.

I’m not an expert on veganism, but I think the point is to try and do as little damage as possible. It takes more land mass, death, and pollution to feed big animal agro business than it does to just feed people. That is my understanding...

There is fascinating research being done on the ‘awareness’ of plants. One study I saw proved that when plants are beset by certain insects, nearby plants will change their chemistry to be unappetizing to these same insects. A plant will change before it’s even attacked. Just in response to other nearby plants. I believe the plants in question were native tobacco in California, by the way.

I did thoroughly enjoy my bbq pork today, in case you’re wondering.
