I have just received news from KLACTO'S (aka Tom Donovan, aka Klacto V. Sedstene) family that he passed away the end of last week.
He was an active member of this forum and a great guy to trade with (we just did another last week).
He will be missed. Please smoke a good one for him!

Sadly, Dan

Very sad news. I was always fascinated with Klacto's name, but never discussed it with him. I remember the old Charlie Parker recordings on 78 rpm's from the late 40s and early 50s. Some of his more arcane recordings were "Relaxin' at Camarillo" and "Klactovedesedstene," and one that was recorded while he was breaking down that wasn't supposed to be released that my high school band teacher had. I never found out the meaning of 'klactovedesedstene,' assuming it has a meaning, or what language it is from.

I imagined that Klacto had been a Yardbird fan and we might have had some interesting conversations. But, we didn't. Bird lives. Hope Klacto, too.

I hope that he enjoyed the Double Chateau's that I sent his way before he went, and I will light one (of the ones sent from him) up in honor tomorow...May peace be with his family, may his soul rest comfortably.

ssmokin,

Just finished a trade with Klacto. Unfortunately, I'm sure my portion of the trade did not arrive before he passed. This is very sad news. Did the family pass on any other info you can share?

Tom died of a heart attack between Weds. pm and Thurs. am last week. He was 42.
The family will return any package to you that arrived after his passing. Dan

Damn, that's a blow ...

I never had the occasion to correspond with KLACTO, but was aware he was a nice guy ... somehow, despite the lack of personal interaction, I'm quite stunned by the news of his death ... it just happened so suddenly to a guy so damn young!!

It sure serves as a reminder that life is a temporary gift, that we need to make the most of each day that we're lucky enough to wake up in the morning and that we should do all we can to cultivate a good relationship with others we know who are equally lucky ...

I'll light a good one tonight in your memory, KLACTO
