OK- I'm a relatively experienced cigar smoker and have been lured into purchasing "seconds" of popular good smokes (hoyo, etc.) I have a question.. these cigars are not factory seconds that have wrapper blemishes, etc. The way they are advertised they should be the same wrapper, binder, filler as the "firsts" but are only cosmetically inferior.. the ones I've had are not the same, most are not seconds, wrapper etc. looks fine they are just plain and simple made with "second's" tobacco.. most are decent smokes but they are not as advertised.. just curious about others opinions..

i am sure i have purchased seconds in the past and i don't any more. i must have stopped for the same reason you are having problems now.

i have had very good luck on this auction with knock-offs.
give some a try.

I have smoked some bad seconds and some pretty good ones. Impossible to predict which you will get. Here's the thing: I don't smoke a lot. So I really treasure the smoking experience. I want a good looking, feeling and tasting cigar. Consistency is important. I don't buy seconds anymore.

I agree ... the only thing consistant about seconds is that they just aren't consistant ... they tend to be of uneven quality .... I've got a bundle in the big humi right now for example, some of which have been pretty good, but others not ...

I have had great luck with Connie #9's and #733's. I highly recommend them. Especially after they've sat for awhile.

I like Connie's just fine ... I had no idea they were 'seconds' ... and Danny's right ... let those babies sit in the humi for several months (or more) and they're much improved ...

Talking about Connie's and aging, makes me think of something that's a little O/T, but you know, in more years of smoking cigars than I'd like to think I'm old enough to have experienced, I'd never developed the patience to age any cigar for more than a few months ... until this last year when it happened by accident ...

I'd got some Connies early last year, smoked a couple, but somehow, they sorta got hidden in my large humi and I actually forgot about 'em ... when I found 'em in spring of this year, it was a really pleasant surprise ... remakrkably, their appearance was substantially changed ... dunno quite how to describe it, but they LOOKED older ... and oh, my - their smokeability was SO much improved ... I've rationed myself to one per week in order to stretch them and now have some more aging ... plus, I've been putting more and more of every box, bundle or even 5-packs away for prolonged aging ... who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick? ... lol

I know that most of you aren't surprised in the least by this story, other than to maybe be surprised that I could be so damn dumb as to have only so recently discovered the magic effect of long aging on a cigar, despite decades of smoking 'em ...

No Steve, I bet Cbid had something to do with it. Once you find this site your inventory inflates and you can age cigars because you just can't smoke em as fast as the UPS guy delivers em. Or you can be a cheapskate like me and never want to smoke the ISOMs or premiums lying in the bottom of your humidor. Those Cohibas covered with white dust look sooo pretty.

My problem is, by the time I realize that cheap **** bundle turned out to be a real jem....I've smoked all but 2!

Never had a "connie", came real close in the 80's though.

Steve, in case you don't know, "Connies" are Villazon 2nds (Punch, HdM, ERDM, JR Ults.). Great buy. My fave are the #25 Maddies.

It's said that you can learn something new every day ... learning that Connies are seconds is one thing I've learned ... and it's a pretty good line they come from too ... no wonder I like 'em. I like to take one of those big #14s with me when I go to watch my son's baseball game on Sundays ... they're a 4 or 5 inning cigar.

Ok, Ok...by Connies are you guys talking about Consuegras. I really like these and have been buying them for years. They are among the more consistent of the seconds. I also have had good luck with Old Fashioned, which are seconds of Macanudo and Partagas. Again they have been fairly consistent. And I do find that aging the Consuegras really helps.

That'd be the ones alright ... and yes, aging helps a lot ... I took a #14 maduro to my son's game yesterday ... that baby had so much nice plume on it and was absolutely delightful ... got a lot of comment on how good it smelled too, which was quite refreshing instead of the usual "hand-waving-under-wrinkled-up-nose ... and the smoke lasted from the middle of the second inning until the top of the 8th making it a 5-1/2 inning cigar ... pretty doggone good stuff.

Okay, I've been around for a good while, and I'm familiar with Connies as well as the other cigars offered at that place with two letters. But what the heck does "Larry" have to do with Connies??? On the BB at "that place with two letters", when you type in "Larry" you get an automatic link on that word to Connies. If this is some super-secret government program, you can e-mail me the answer cliff1 at nts-online dot net.

"Larry" is a code name for a highly placed Honduran government official and source of the mysterious "Connies". Oliver Stone is making a movie about this.
