Back in 2013, President Obama ordered the CDC to perform a study on gun violence. He was hoping that he could declare gun violence a "health epidemic" and bypass our 2nd Amendment.
Though the report came back mostly critical of guns and gun ownership, there where two positive points.
1) The CDC determined that law abiding Americans use firearms between 500,000 and 3,000,000 times EACH year to defend life and property from criminal attack. Most of the time, just the presence of the gun was enough to deter the attack, and shots did not have to be fired.
2) The CDC determined that those who used firearms for self defense where far less likely to be injured, or their injuries where far less severe, then those who used other forms of self defense.
Question: If we outlaw the legal ownership of firearms, are we ready to deal with another 500,000 to 3,000,000 murder/rape/mugging/assault/robbery victims per year?
David Not sure there was another CDC survey? I think that one that publicized was done in the 90's. And the 'defense stats' weren't stats at all, but extrapolated from a sampling in just a few states where people were asked if they'd used their guns defensively....not sure the exact question or the numbers involved, but I am pretty sure that citing specific numbers as above is likely inaccurate or possibly misleading
