I noticed LT, in his PAM post on the Cigar Board, mentioned listening to the Michael Savage "Savage Nation" show. Monday, on my way home from a small afternoon business trip, I listened and decided I needed to call in. I know very little about Michael Savage but heard something I didn't agree with. He had just opened by telling the audience how enraged he is over the Islamic 9/11 celebrations in London. He was criticizing Tony Blair for not doing something about it. Then he went on to criticize Laura Bush for asking parents to turn off their televisions on 9/11 and instead light a candle or in some way signify the day with their children without the images on t.v. Well, I'm just as mad as the next guy about 9/11, but after Savage cut a guy short that called in to disagree about our children's exposure to all this, I had to call in. I respectfully told him I shared his disgust, but that I agreed with the first lady that our children (I've got 3 daughters 8 & under) don't need to see the graphic images over and over. He told me he disagreed, that our children need to see the face of the enemy. He did, however, say he respected my choices as a parent. But I told him my children saw it all last year - we discussed it, agonized over it, and prayed about it - and I didn't see the need in their seeing the awful images again. Hey, I won't shield my kids from the truth, but I'm also not taking them to R-rated movies just yet either. Unfortunately, my radio lost the signal just as my call started and I have no idea what his final response was to me after I was cut off.
Hey, I'm in agreement we as a nation tend to "sugar-coat" things too much (I'd put a bullet in bin Laden's head if I had the chance!), but do you think Savage was a little too "savage" about the issue? My kids understand what happened even though I'm not showing them people leaping off buildings. And about the Muslims celebrating - that REALLY makes me mad, but I don't think we can just go in and make them stop. Now if they're plotting terrorism, I say "Go get the bastards." Am I missing something here? What's the story on Michael Savage?

it doesn't sound to me like you are missing anything at all. i don't know where savage broadcasts so i can't say anything about him. in ca on am 870 we have are far right talk show with several different annouincers. george putnam is still around, bless him for fighting his good fight and we have a few newcomers like michael medved who think they are picking up the gauntlet but are simply small potatoes compared to the old pros who could discuss patriotism, and even if you didn't agree with a particular point of view he was discussing, you could admire the good knight for his stance on the horse and the way he carried his lance.

i did not watch anything today except briefly i heard two different talk show people ask someone who's love one was murdered "how do you feel about today?"

i certainly would not want children watching this over and over so that they are taught hatred. in the arab part of israel, sometimes called the west bank, sometimes called palestine, a name that has just been invented, the children go to school and are taught to 1. hate the jews, and 2. becoming a suicide bomber and blowing themselves to pieces and killing as many jews as possible is considered a noble cause. that is how you end up with people spending so much time developing a plan that will murder, in this case 3000 americans, and kill themselves in the process.

my kids never owned toy pistols.

you keep doing what your instinct tells you and when you are old and grey like me, you will be proud of what you have done for them.

There are some people who are always ready to push other people around and yell at them and tell them what to do. I don't like those people. One of my pet thoeries is: The more volume you need to make your point; the less of a point you have to make. Truth is always soft spoken. Confucious didn't say that but he should have.

Michael Savage is trying to wake people up. He does it like a jangling alarm clock, loud and uncomfortably. The truth is not popular these days. There are people who want you to believe things because it would be nice if they were true.

The history of man is savage. While the barbarians are still on the other side of the wall we imagine that man has evolved and we can leave the bloodied past and all its horrors behind. Yesterday while you mourned the heartless slaughter of thousands of civilized men, women and children while their protector kings slept in the lap of luxury, I was angry as hell. And still we will not wake up. We want so desperately to believe that everything is nice or soon will be if we just show these heartless bastards with scimitars how nice we are.

Rick, the children of the holocaust needed more guns, not no guns. We need to kill this vermin, not try to understand it nor be understood by it.

Those who turn their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't. They are at the gate. When they slit your throat, like Daniel Pearl's, and rape your wife and daughters, Allah will reward them in paradise.

Michael Savage is a cross between Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern. He is a conservative Shock Jock. I listen to him occasionally, but don't admit it publically.
He is a performer, who often says things that disgust me due to their simplicity seemingly born out of sheer ignorance. But, that is his gig. That is how he gets people like yourself to call in (without which, he wouldn't have a show).
The reason I listen, is to hear the caller's opinions. So, I guess he is doing a good job?

Great descriptin of Savage! he is on 83 AM in Southern California in the afternoon! I have listened to him once in a while, but not a fan! He uses strong opinions to stir em up and is very conservative.
