For boxes/bundles you receive, Sharpie the MM/YY of acquisition on them.
* When removing a stick from a marked box/bundle and you're not going to smoke it immediately, transfer the MM/YY from the box/bundle to the stick's cello with a Sharpie.
For individual sticks you receive, Sharpie MM/YY on cello.
Advantages:
1. No annoying central spreadsheet or database is needed, nor its upkeep, backups, etc.
2. Every item has the MM/YY of acquisition right on it, no need to perform any lookups.
3. Give items to friends, there's the MM/YY already on the item for them to see.
4. No stickers, post-it notes or any other physical add-ons needed.
5. Near-zero effort, expense, complexity.
* When Sharpie-marking a box or bundle, if the surface is porous (e.g. unfinished wood) one MM/YY is sufficient, but if the surface is less-pourous or non-pourous (e.g. typical bundle cellophane, slick-finished boxes, etc.) write two or more MM/YY copies for redundancy if possible, as some of the writing may wear off due to handling over many years).
