but it seems to me that if you are cheering on the first option, then you're gleefully cheering the death of however many people were on that passenger plane. I mean, I think we have too many people, but you usually like to pretend to be a moral person

How does Trump get any blame for this at all? The plane was shot down in Tehran. That's in Iran. It was shot down by Iranian AAC missiles. Missles fired by by Iranian military. Missles fired at an outbound commercial liner outside of Tehran that has a unique identifying signal to let military know if they should target it that it's not military. So much for those superior weapons the Soviets are peddling and the training to go along with them!
I don't know of any military operation where a general would have to account for the enemy turning their weaponry at their own unarmed citizenry but the TDS is running real strong so a lot of common sense ideas and plans are out the window. This is real Thelma & Louise get in the car kinda planning right here!
As for cheering, nobody is cheering the death of innocent civilians that boarded a flight that was cleared for take-off in a nation that is not at war.
I would venture to guess that the hatred is so damned deep that it clouds all rational thought and blaming a President for taking out a known terrorist that has been on a "kill list" for decades! In Iraq of all places! Now, what would an Iranian "general" that happens to have a propensity to kill military and civilian targets be doing in a foreign nation on the very same day that our embassy was overran? Never-minding the fact that Iraq was at war with Iran for 8 bloody years. That's quite a coincidence. His own name was spray painted on the walls of the embassy too! The left was bugged-eyed about their actions being his Benghazi! But Trump is at fault? Trump should've been given a standing O for taking out the trash like General Salami (yeah, I know the name is misspelled.) but what to the Left and the ones that wish to kill Americans do? Complain about his death, try to restrict the President's legal obligation as Commander-In-Chief and crow about it on any news outlet that would put makeup on them and pass tissues out. Now Iran and any damned rogue operator fully knows if we want you dead, you're dead. Look how they took that news? They shot down a commercial airliner that was almost 11 hours away from where we disposed of their trash!
No need to tell people to stop digging anymore. What we need to do is start backfilling the holes with them in it.
