Do you know how many bases Florida has? Tampa has a PX at Macdill and one of the better ran VA hospitals at Bay Pines.
Nobody hardly lives in Ybor. Its bars, Restaurants and concert halls. Sprinkle in some great cigar stores, tattoo shops and ta da...a fun night out. Clearwater downtown? Almost the same thing. There are fantastic places in Central Florida for every price point and every facet.
My worry about the panhandle is it's a storm surge magnet. Same for JAX. The panhandle has some great beaches without a doubt and St.Augustine isn't far from JAX. That place has charm.
I like going to concerts so Central Florida is where I prefer to be. If we want to go to the beach we go for several days at a time and stay there. Where I'm at there are actually hills and it's still rural. I always wanted to live in the country so I'm home.
Leaving California will be a blessing. I know it was for me and my family. I went back lots for work and always hated flying in to LAX or Burbank and having my eyes just burn from the smog. I always forgot how bad it was until I was there. Hopping in a rental car and driving up the PCH would clear my mind. I would really research where in Florida you want to settle, if that's still where you want to live. Maybe rent first to see if it is where you want to set roots. That said, I LOVE this state and call it home. The humidity, the blue sky and the ocean always makes me smile. Did I mention there's no state tax? Yeah.
