Not sure if this cobia is the real deal. I have 15 of them left and been in my humidor since 2003.

That is no cobia...shape, coloration and lack of scales give it away

Why not smoke one and let us know what you think? Seventeen years and you still can't tell?

It really has a smooth draw, medium flavored, and had a slight sweet taste. I really liked it. I'm not a cigar buff kind of guy, so I didn't look into it. A buddy of mine use to fly state diplomat charters to cuba, so I just thought they were real cohibas. Either way I like them. After 17 years, they really held up great.

Then that sounds like a genuine cobia.

Consider yourself lucky.
There are in fact, fake Cubans that are pretty decent.
Unfortunately, there are also fakes that are absolutely unsmokeable.
I’ve had both kinds

They are not real Cohiba but may still be real Cuban tobacco. Your buddy most likely bought from a street vendor. Smoke 'em and enjoy.

I would still be cautious about smoking them. Never know what's inside them unless you cut one open.

And unsmokeable is a kind way of putting it.
