I have been in two tornados before but never in a hurricane until the early A.M. of this past Wed. Hurricane now checked off of the bucket list. We were just north of the eye wall for approximately 4 hours, the damn thing just would not move. Best way to describe would be to say it was like spending 4 hours in a tornado.
Power went out Wed around 0200 and was out until 1400 Fri. Another 60 hours or so on the Honda generator and it never missed a beat.
No damage to our house but I cannot say the same for some of our neighbors. Several houses on our street and in the area had large oaks on their roof tops. I believe a stand of 20 year old hardwoods probably helped shield our house from the 105+ wind.
Another first, I got to speed an hour and a half in the gas line on Thur afternoon for more generator gas.
Inner web and wi-fi finally came back this P.M around 1800. Inner web and wi-fi ranked #2 behind AC as far as being missed during this adventure.
Another revelation, wife stated that the next time I suggest we leave before a looming hurricane she is all in. I kind of got the vibe that Sally scared the sh*t out of her.
As of this A.M., 70,000 in our county 50,000 in Mobile County ,and 54,000 in Pensacola area still without power.
It could have been a lot worse and fortunately it was not.
