Hi all,

Gurkha-smoking azzhat noob here.

First, apologies if this is the wrong forum for this question. I have searched the FAQ's, looked for posts on the forums and even emailed Cbid directly, but all to no avail.

I'm wondering what the little cartoon logo watermark in the lower right-hand corner of an auction lot signifies?

Curiosity is killing this cat!

Platinum membership auction... Forum member celticbomber is technically the one responsible for deciding which auctions receive that designation... send him a private message and he'll explain it to you and if you wanna do the platinum sign up he can get that going for you too...

Gurkha! Haha!

I forgot if his name is Buddy or Joe but by watermarking the image it basically prevents someone else (...like a lazy or unauthorized competitor...) from copying and using the image.

If you see the watermark it means you’ve been “green lit” by SSG gangstalkers.

Frankly I’m surprised the directed microwave weapon designed to disorientate and present “medical symptoms” isn’t interfering with your internet.

They must be tracking your keystrokes and contacts to green light additional dissidents.

Well, if I am going to participate in your little sewing circle here, I need to know how to do the quote box thingy.

I sure as shyt am not going to be answering Cheno's question about keeping it wrapped or going bare back and have that trigger something even more ungodly than that banana hammock travesty...

I mean no offense to the fella rocking the zucchini bikini, but if you're going to show the world you're snuggling plums, maybe a little manscaping? A sit up or two? After all, this is the Time of Covid - like toilet paper and common sense, eye bleach is hit or miss...

It's quite easy. See that little button on each post in the upper righthand corner that says "QUOTE" and a Mickey Mouse glove points to it when your cursor hovers over it??? Click that.

I was actually referencing (albeit poorly) this Lawrence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A939QRRSNV4

What is a reasonable target $ for everyday smokes? For some reason I have it pegged around $3/stick, but I don't know if I'm cheating myself or missing value. My only reference is retail, where you have to spend well north of a fiver to get something worth smoking.

And, before the elitist/proletariat arguments ensue, I get it that it's relative to comfort level. Bezos throws around a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon he's talking about real money...

Goodhumer, sorry that I misinterpreted your Lawrence reference (it is certainly a classic).
All I can say on a target price for everyday smokes is to tell you what I did when I first went balls deep into this "hobby". I bought and smoked everything I could get my hands on; price be damned and learned what I liked and what was worth the $ and what should never be purchased again at any price. Of course your millage may vary.

I think when I first started I thought $10/cigar was ridiculously high for a cigar. The fun part for me was finding a great cigar for a reasonable price. These cigars are a great cigar for a reasonable price. https://www.cigarbid.com...on-3000-natural/3773685/

It's also hard to go wrong with anything made by Arturo Fuente. My favorite NC was and still is the Short Story.

Good hunting and I hope you and your whole family have a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Anything by Gurkha, Rocky Patel, or 5 Vegas should be high on your list. Oh, and Diesel. Don't forget Diesel.

In all seriousness, the Ashton crowd might spit their Chardonnay back in their glass, but I think you can get some pretty good average smokes on here for $20 or less per 5 pack. So $4 per stick or less. It all depends on your taste (or lack thereof).

You'll have to experiment. Some of what you buy will work out, and some won't. You can give the ones you don't like to your friends or frenemies. I was out of the cigar game for a while, and that's what I've been doing. Buying a bunch of 5 packs and checking out new ( new to me) stuff.

A short list of things I like for under $20:
La Aurora Preferidos # 2 Cameroon
" 1495 Robusto
601 Blue Maduro Robusto
Olivia Serie G Maduro perfecto
Gilberto Olivia Reserve 543
Obsidian Gordo (I'm usually not into the jaw breakers, but I like the flavor of these)
La Palina # 1 (I have some other stuff of theirs but haven't smoked them yet)

And others. And, yes, you can actually find Gurkha's, RPs, 5 Vegas and Diesel that are worth the money. 5 Vegas classic torpedos are actually ok, and a box costs less than $40. That's right. I said it. I said it. I'm saying that I said it. I admit it. I don't care. I don't care. I don't regret it.

Last thing. Use the lot watch function. Lot watch is your friend. You can see what things usually sell for without overbidding.

Yeah $3 is a very nice sweet spot for everyday smokes IMO if you can find them. They are there. It might take some patience though. For me I'm prob more around the $5-8 (good online prices from various places) range for everyday smokes but I do not adhere to that consistently. I'm a sucker for the limited edition Ezra Zion and Nomad smokes that get released in very small batches. You can't touch those for less than $10-15 per stick with taxes and shipping. I did something very similar to what Buckwheat did starting out with buying and smoking anything and everything under the sun trying to figure out what I liked the most. And yeah, "price be damned" lol. My favorite budget smokes from here currently are prob the Obsidian and the Padilla Fumas Maduro. I've gotten those for $1-2 per stick. But those are on the med-full/full body side of things.

Thank you!!!

This is the type of advice I was hoping for. So far I've been picking up samplers, but I may switch over and get a grip of singles once I have room in the humi. I tend to lean toward full bodied, but that may be because I haven't refined my palette well enough to appreciate a more nuanced smoke.

Like I said, the $3 mark is arbitrary, but it helps me get s feel for that range. When I have more storage, will figure out a sorting system or inventory that makes sure I know the price point of a particular stick.

Again, thank you!

Yeah def get in on the n00b PIB.

Also go ahead and get you some extra storage. This was probably one of the best decisions I made early on. (and I'm pretty sure it was suggested to me by others on here) I used to refer peeps to Walmart to purchase the 60qt Ziploc WeatherShield storage containers. You could get a 4 pack shipped for around $55. But that is not the case anymore. The Ziploc WeatherShield containers have been discontinued but they were made for Ziploc by a company named IRIS. They have a line that is exactly the same as the Ziploc WeatherShield (minus the branding) called Weathertight. These are still available but unfortunately there is somewhat of a shortage for these currently so the pricing has gone up. I recently was able to snag a 30qt from Walmart for $13.48 but they have already went up in price just in the last few weeks. I'm assuming due to low quantities and supply/demand. Hopefully supply will be sorted soon and they come back down in pricing. I paid roughly the same price for the 30qt that I was paying for 60qt size last year.

Sterilite also makes a line of sealed storage containers as well.

Also I'm still using one of these for about 1.5 yrs now:
http://www.cigarbid.com/...52/in-case-of-emergency-
I initially used it as emergency overflow but I just kept some sticks in it anyways and it had worked great. Only issue I've had with these is that if you are opening and closing these often you need to be sure when opening to pull apart as close to the ziploc seal as possible. If you just pull apart using the excess plastic where the handle is every time eventually the ziploc seal witl tear away from the plastic it is glued to.

And here is a seal mod I did on one of my 60qt containers that had a crappy seal. I only had to do this once though. All others the seals were sufficient.

So I haven't yet got in the noob PIB yet, little intimidated if I'm being completely honest...

To answer your question Z, so far (and I'm slowly working my way through my first CB purchase & didn't really keep notes prior to that) my standouts have been La Herencia CORE, HC Series maduro robusto, Monte Classic yellow band and CAO Brazilia Gol. As someone else mentioned, never smoked an AF I didn't like...

Thanks for the suggestions, Clint, I have a modest tupperdor storing duplicates already, but working on acquiring larger, more perm storage. Excellent tips about the ziplocks - that's too easy not to take advantage of it. Do you put any cedar in with them?

I have some cedar trays in a couple of my 60qt's but honestly I have not put any in the others b/c i really haven't noticed a difference and the trays just take up more area where there could be cigars. Herfing.
