Suspect who fired at officers on Plank Road is in custody, Baton Rouge police say

Baton Rouge Police have taken into custody a suspect who shot at officers responding to a disturbance on Plank Road Sunday night, a police spokesman said. No officer was injured.

The suspect was found by officers, with the help of a K9 officer, in the area of Sycamore and Longfellow streets shortly before 9:15 p.m., said Sgt. L'Jean McKneely Jr. The suspect was injured by the police canine in the arrest and was transported to the hospital, McKneely said.

At about 8 p.m. Sunday night, officers responded to a call at 4670 Plank Road about a disturbance involving a person with a gun, Sgt. L'Jean McKneely Jr. said.


"As they pulled up and got out of their car, the individual started shooting at them," McKneely said.

Two officers in separate units responded; one of the patrol units was struck by the gunfire, he said.

This is a developing story.


I wonder how long it took the handler to disengage the K9. Oh well. As they say, pick your rate, pick your fate.

Arm? Don’t know if he’s still active, but about 6-8 years ago the city PD brought a guy to our jail that ran from them. For some odd reason the K9 that caught him aimed for the crotch instead of the arm. I had the misfortune of searching him when he came in. Poor guy I felt sorry for him. He was in bad shape.

Well, if Chopper bit the guy's balls off that would have been just fine by me. That guy shooting at the cops needed stopped period.

Don’t know where they get the dogs, but they have had some winners. A good friend of mine was a K9 officer. His dog chased a guy into some bushes. He went in after him. Dog ended up chewing on his ankle. It was a small Malinois, but he made up for his size with tenacity.
