I’m looking to raise my JBL L65 Jubals off of the floor and wondering if any of you have elevated floor standing speakers?

If you have, then:

What speakers do you have?

How high did you raise them? Are you satisfied with the height or do you wish it was lower / higher?

Did you make the stands or buy them? Any tips if you built them? If you bought, where did you get them from?

Any other suggestions / recommendations highly appreciated.

TIA.

A long time ago I hung them on a wall so it looked like they were floating. Hid the wires in the wall. Only issue was with playing them real loud and having heavy bass. It def looks nice especially if you got them on a side of a TV. Not sure if that's something you would consider.

Have a pair of pretty good sized Klipsh speakers that are raised about 10''-12'' off the floor, angled up. Meaning the stands they are on are not level on top, but at an angle- but not so the speakers would fall off the stands. I have always had lab mix dogs, and didn't want them knocking over a higher platform stand, cuz they are spazzez!

You want the sound waves directed at your head level for the best sound. If you want them higher off the floor in a stand, you won't have to angle the speaker, just make sure it is at the right level, like if you sit down most of the time listening, then do that.

They would be simple enough to make, I bought mine a long time ago- made of wood, when I purchased the speakers. Interwebs would have multiple places to purchase.

They improved the sound greatly being off the floor and directed at my ear level, highly recommend doing this.

Mine look similar to these, but a little bigger as my speakers are larger:

Here is a taller stand one that may do the trick:

Never thought about hanging them. Iirc, they weigh 67 lbs. each and I really just wanna elevate them so that the tweeters are at or around ear level when I sit in a chair. When I, for s&g, used my MIL’s shower chair to lift one of them, the difference was HUGE! I’d been thinking about lifting them up for a couple years now, more so when I hooked everything back up. At my core I’m a blues-rock guy, siloed in the late ‘60s to early ‘80s with a tinge of ‘90s (SRV) and the stuff I like was meant to be played LOUD! Having the speakers on the floor has been okay for the last 47 years but raising them up is the way to go!

Make sure that they can handle volume from the amp that goes to 11... unless you're a caveman and only have an amp that goes to 10, then any speaker stand should work.

Thanks. I tried looking on Amazon but didn’t find stands big or high enough for what I’m looking for. At the minimum I need the platform to be 13” by 11” and of course, a larger base to avoid tipping over (…I’m paranoid about that too…).

Hahaha! I don’t worry about my speakers being able to handle a lotta power. My ears will hurt before the speakers get blown out.

But back to your point, the most power I’ve ever had was 100 watts per channel but I think THD was something like 0.03% so was damn clean! That amp could bring it! Miss it dearly.

Can you do a DIY with say, welded steel square tubing and fill the tubing with sand so you have a weighted base to prevent from tipping (I trust you have access to sand on the island) paint it up to fit the decor. Maybe PVC pipe filled with sand in a similar fashion.

Not an audiofile but from what I understand, use the woofer and/or subwoofer is to help to transfer the bass to the floor and use the structure of the house (floors and walls) to help deliver the low frequencies.

Thanks Jeff. I just started looking there and have made inquiries with 3 places. Two for wood and a metal stand maker. While I would prefer making them, it would probably take me 6 to 12 months to get my act together so I gotta figure out if I have more time than money or vice versa.

No stands here, but if you put your speakers on carpet, consider spike feet to anchor them to the floor.

I leave mine on the floor, but they're already 4ish ft tall as is. Perfect for being encompassed in sound when sitting on the couch

Man I’d build them. It would honestly depend on the tools you have on hand. If you build you can make exactly what you want. I vibe out to some woodworking though so I’m kinda into it. There’s a billion ways to get to where you wanna be I used to build speaker boxes back in the day for fun. We’d wrap them with indoor outdoor carpet 3/4 plywood with glue and screws Or you could go with stain grade cabinet ply. If it was me for myself no question I’d build it. Probably just use some decent plywood with some “liquid nails” maybe some clean nails. You know like those rustic looking old school ones that are expensive as sin.

Those guys on Etsy are pretty good though. I really like giving my money to some of those fellas.

Really depends on what you personally want. Tools available and skill set.

Heck you could build it out of pallet wood and have it spaced out clean and make it look nice. That would be a really easy build you could probably get by with just a circular saw or just a jigsaw. Make it look like a little crate.

Little palm sander and some stain and high gloss.

Honestly though it really comes down to just exactly what you want.

Did a banister for a friend last year we took an old 2x12 and beat it with a heavy chain and hammer. Burnt the indents then stained and high glossed. Looked really nice when we were done.

You can take almost any type of wood and make it look however you want with a little work.

My Dad was a finishing carpenter but most of his tools were moved to my older brother’s house and over the years he sold or give them away. When I was young, I was my Dad’s helper. You know, “Hold this up”, “Carry this over there”, “Pound these nails”, etc. He would figure out the design and do most of the table and bandsaw cutting so my “skill set” is limited. I’mma pretty sure I could figure out how to do it with the limited tools I have but probably hafta buy a few to make the job go faster or more efficiently.

With that being said, I’mma probably go the Etsy route and have one of those guys make custom sized and finished stands. I’mma pretty sure they can whip out the stands in a couple of weeks or so

Ruled out metal since I didn’t want any acoustic resonance issues. Plus, I prefer the warmth of wood.

Nah I like that idea. I’m very confident you could do it. And make it look really Nice. But I definitely dig the idea of getting a small woodworker from Etsy to hook you up.

At some point in time my Dad had a cabinet shop but he was too much of a perfectionist to make it profitable. During our Dad’s services, my oldest brother told me that our Dad made and donated the pulpit that the priest was speaking from. It was cut from one piece of wood and my brother said my Dad broke a lot of bandsaw blades and went through a bunch of wood too. I inherited the perfectionist part but definitely not the love of furniture making.

A friend of mine has a Man Garage. He's converted a metal building into several rooms that have become his shop, pool table, video game room, and karaoke/movie lounge with a full bar with 3 line kegs tapper.

He uses painted cinder blocks with LED lights that he can change to whatever color he wants solidly or they gradually change over time (got them at IKEA) hid in the top of the holes of the blocks for his speaker stands. It works for his place...maybe not what you're looking for though...just an idea.

Um..we have a woodworker on the site. RiverRatRuss.

Jus' sayin'.

Hit Russ up. He could most likely design something better.

Milk crates for that college chic look. Plus, there's the added bonus of doubling as album cabinets

Here I thought this thread was about finally having a Speaker (of the House) that can stand on their own and not propped up while stammering due to too much vodka…Beer

Small update.

Contacted Russ but he’s got some things to clear up with his local government so we’ll reconvene in a couple of months.

In the meantime, I used some furniture sliders to tilt the speakers back and with the tweeters firing upwards towards my ears, they sound great.

Now I’m thinking of maybe just 3-4” lift but angled up a little.
