When you can’t get the spending you want, and your donors need their payout……

WAG THE DOG.

Man’s I remember when I first got here to the forums the lack of trust/belief in government agencies because GW and ****** Cheney. Are those guys gone now because their sentiments are now considered extreme, racist, and they’re terrorist conspiracy nuts?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

Very interesting indeed. But, I think saying the unit was nearly destroyed may be a bit overblown by anti-Putin sentiment of the writer, editor, publisher or some or all over the above. A ten percent death rate (per the article 500 of 5000) really isn’t that high in a war theater. I would be interested in knowing the unit’s actual casualty rate (dead and injured).

For example consider the first Battle of Ia Drang. US forces had a 50-70% casualty rate. It’s hard to determine the actual rate as it involved 2 battalions as well as other reinforcements.

A battallion is made up of four to six companies and be as many as 1,000 soldiers...

2 x 1,000 = 2,000
Plus reinforcements...say 500?

50 % of 2,500 is ....1,250
70% of 2,500 is...1,750

Man ...that is a lot of casualties!!
That is very sad ...I have spoken to many many Vietnam vets...AT SEVERAL AMERIcAN LEGION POSTS along with my tradecraft handler "tommy" a pilot, who was a veitnam vet...

My mail man up in Central PA was on some "HILL W/ A #" during one battle...the VC were on top of the hill...
He said his experience was worse than that "hamburger hill" movie...and he was in the **** in dozens more battles for two tours...he got shot 3? Times by AK47 FIRE and hit by shrapnel several times...
The poor guy had a severe back ache for 36 hours and he dealt with the intense pain...goes to the hospital and he was having
A very long heart attack and did not know it...
He said when your shot by an AK in the middle of hand to hand combat...you just keep fighting ...If it was in and out with no organ or spinal injury...you had to just keep fighting and wrap a tight field dressing then reload and help your buddies who were wounded a lot worse...he said those HILL battles were H.E.L.L. on earth and total meat grinders...

According to Wikipedia the total US troop strength for that battle was around 1000. Of those 237 were killed, 258 were wounded and 4 were listed as MIA. I’ve read Hal Moore and Joe Galloway’s book “ We Were Soldiers Once...and Young” and those numbers seem to be consistent with what I read.
