It flushes out a lot of differing opinions.
Thank you Robert.
That is really what I’m interested in learning. Where do individuals see their country’s priorities? Would you want to pay for the things you want done? Where would you take money from?
Anybody can tear people and things down- I’ve certainly done my share of that here over the last two decades myself. Trying to be better and encourage people to try as well.
Don’t know where I stand on Speaker Mike Johnson yet. Haven’t seen enough of him and how he is going to try to steer the unwieldy barge the slim Republican majority has, and what if anything he can do in his position. I like his idea of offsets. Want to to give a billion to Ukraine? Sure. But offset it by dragging 1.1 billion from other wasteful, bloated, or PC bullchit programs.
Taxes have always been my #1 issue and still is. Getting real control over the Southern border is 1B. If we were REALLY serious about controlling the border, it would start with deporting the Dreamers. Your parents dragged you into the country when you were three? Don’t blame the government for you being sent back to your country of birth.
Stark, cold, and not very nice. However, it would be the strongest possible message sent to anyone else trying to get here illegally.
Or…. Instead of giving Ukraine cash, we send them illegals we scoop up. Everyone 18 and older- go and do four years in the Ukrainian Army. They can apply for citizenship there once they finish their stint. The adults can choose to either bring their kids with them, or send them back to their country of origin.
The chances of getting either of those proposals are probably less than 1.8%, but at least it is an idea.
To Shawn’s point, I absolutely agree with not giving entitlements to people who haven’t paid in. Still boggles my mind that people who do not pay income taxes get tax refunds.
