F Rudy. He screwed them over for life.
He's a loser with a $9 million condo in NYC he is trying to unload.
You can bet they will attach their judgement to it to try to collect.

Then, when he publishes a book, they will cut a deal with him on the proceeds.

The Tragedy of Rudy Giuliani
He’s the latest to be brought low for having peddled Trump’s false election claims.

WSJ Editorial Board

The tragedy of Rudy Giuliani continues to escalate with last week’s jury award of $148 million in a defamation suit brought by two Georgia election workers. What a long, strange decline it’s been for the former mayor who rescued New York City from a previous era of progressive decline.

The eight-member Washington, D.C., jury awarded the two election workers three times more than the $48 million they sought, and that is likely to be reduced by the trial judge or an appellate court.

But Ruby Freeman and Wandrea ArShaye Moss, of Fulton County, Ga., persuaded the jury and judge that they were falsely accused of manipulating absentee ballot counts. There’s no doubt the two women endured considerable abuse and damage to their reputations after they were singled out by Trump campaign allies, though Mr. Giuliani says he wasn’t the only person who identified the workers and that other people did the abusing.

“The absurdity of the number underscores the absurdity of the entire proceeding,” Mr. Giuliani said, adding that “I have not been allowed to offer one single piece of evidence in defense, of which I have a lot.” He’ll get his chance on appeal.

The judgment illustrates the fate of so many who promoted Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud in 2020. Some, like lawyer Sidney Powell, have pleaded guilty to crimes. Those who breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, however naively, have had their lives turned upside down by indictments and in some cases jail time. Mr. Giuliani could be left bankrupt and lose his law license.

The only person who may emerge unscathed from his election falsehoods is Mr. Trump. There’s a lesson in that for those who put loyalty to a person above their better judgment.

Giuliani Was Ordered to Pay $148 Million. What Happens Now?
The two election workers who sued Rudolph W. Giuliani for defamation won’t be paid right away, and the judge could change the amount awarded by the jury.

NYT

A federal jury in Washington ordered Rudolph W. Giuliani last week to pay $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers he defamed by spreading baseless claims that they tried to steal votes from Donald J. Trump on Nov. 3, 2020.

Mr. Giuliani, who faces a litany of legal and financial troubles, has said he will appeal the verdict.

Here’s what happens next:
The judge will order a judgment on what Mr. Giuliani must pay.

The jury awarded the two former poll workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, who are Black, $148 million. That was after they gave hours of emotional testimony describing the relentless threats and attacks they received, including from people who said they should be hanged for treason or lynched. The total included a combined $75 million in punitive damages; compensatory damages of $16.2 million to Ms. Freeman and $16.9 million to Ms. Moss; and $20 million to each of them for emotional suffering.

Before Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss can collect any money, the judge, Beryl A. Howell of the Federal District Court in Washington, will need to enter a judgment ordering the amount Mr. Giuliani is required to pay. In civil cases like this one, the judge can change the amount determined by the jury.

Once Judge Howell rules on the amount, Mr. Giuliani can appeal the decision.

The money will not come immediately.
“Defense lawyers can string out these cases for pretty substantial periods of time before payments actually have to be made,” said Robert L. Rabin, a professor at Stanford Law School with expertise on torts and compensations.

If Mr. Giuliani appeals the verdict, Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss could ask the judge to make him post a bond to secure some of his assets while an appeal is pending, said Christopher M. Mattei, a lawyer who represented the Sandy Hook families in their defamation case against the Infowars founder Alex Jones.

The women can also request a special proceeding to look into ways to collect the judgment from him, such as garnishing his wages. Mr. Giuliani, who served as the mayor of New York City and as a federal prosecutor, cannot currently work as a lawyer because of disciplinary actions against him.

Mr. Giuliani refused to comply with the court’s requirement to disclose financial documents that would show his net worth, including how much money he makes from media endeavors such as his podcast.

And at any point, Mr. Giuliani and Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss could agree on a settlement.

Mr. Giuliani will still be on the hook, even in bankruptcy.
After Friday’s verdict, Mr. Giuliani was likely to file for bankruptcy protection, according to a lawyer familiar with his legal situation.

The damages he owes Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss are considered an “intentional tort,” meaning Mr. Giuliani was aware of what he was doing when he defamed the women by spreading baseless lies about election fraud, and bankruptcy would not erase his liability.

“It may be that Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss are able to chase Rudy Giuliani to his grave to catch every penny they can out of his pockets,” Barbara L. McQuade, a University of Michigan law professor, said recently on MSNBC. Ms. McQuade was a U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan from 2010 to 2017.

If Mr. Giuliani, who is 79, dies before Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss receive compensation, they could still collect compensatory and emotional damages against his estate, Mr. Rabin said.

Mr. Giuliani faces additional legal challenges.
Mr. Giuliani is under indictment in Georgia. A local prosecutor brought racketeering charges against him, Mr. Trump and others for their efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia.

He faces a defamation suit from Dominion Voting Systems, one of the largest voting machine vendors in the country. The company accused Mr. Giuliani of spreading lies about the company as part of his efforts to keep Mr. Trump in office.

Mr. Giuliani’s former lawyer, Robert J. Costello, is also suing him for $1.3 million in unpaid legal fees. And a former employee, Noelle Dunphy, filed a lawsuit in May, claiming that Mr. Giuliani harassed and assaulted her beginning in 2019. Mr. Giuliani has denied the allegations.

I'm just not gullible enough to believe everything the regime media says.

Now if I say somebody said hurtful things about me and I cry a lot about that destroying my life in front of a judge and jury I can get awarded at least half of $148 Million? SIGN ME UP! LOL

My statement had nothing to do with what he did was right or wrong, kind of conflating my intent. Process and uneven punishment are a tool being used, one can choose to or not to see that.

You don't even smell the stink that this clown show is part of a larger lefty political witch hunt? No?

Am I supposed to believe that Giuliani is personally responsible for their alleged harassment and death threats?

You don't even find the $148Mill or even 1/3 of that an absurd amount, do you?

When it comes to anything to do with the machinations of government in this decaying republic, I am forever a cynic and cynics are right 9 times out of 10.

Yes... Rudy IS the reason all of that **** happened to them. it was his lies and aspersions that caused the trump loving attack dogs to pounce... the one that falsely screams fire in a crowded theater is the one that gets blamed for the people the stampede hurts on the way out the door...

How much is what happened to them worth? having death threats called on them, having to go into hiding, having to watch over a shoulder for the rest of their lives because some idiot is just WAITING to "punish them" because of Rudy's lies...

The government didn't decide the amount... a jury did... and defending this guy like you are is gross. Anyone one that would defend him or justify what he has done or complain about the punishment he has received would probably do what he had done... making that person garbage.

My bad. d'oh!

I don't think there was anything wrong with the process.
The damages are excessive, but make a serious statement to all by 8 jurors.

The trial judge, appellate court or bankruptcy court will reduce the damages. Usually what is the norm in situations like this.
It is called "remittitur."

Why don't you?

Weren't these women acting as agents of the state? Why should they be treated as private citizens as far as defamation is concerned?
Anybody who works for that thing government should face the same public scrutiny, be questioned about their actions, and their alleged improprieties and incompetencies without persecution and reprisal by the regime and their lackeys.

All that alleged stuff about "having death threats called on them, having to go into hiding, having to watch over a shoulder for the rest of their lives"...Cmon' Man! That's what lefties do to intimidate right-wingers.

Giuliani Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Rudolph Giuliani filed papers in federal bankruptcy court in New York, listing debts including big legal fees, unpaid taxes and the $148 million a jury ordered him to pay two Georgia election workers.

NYT

Rudolph W. Giuliani filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, a day after a federal judge ordered him to start paying the $148 million in damages he owes to two former Georgia election workers for spreading lies that they had tried to steal the 2020 election from Donald J. Trump.

Mr. Giuliani also owes millions of dollars in legal fees as well as unpaid state and federal income taxes, according to the filing.

Last week, a jury ordered Mr. Giuliani to pay two former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, $148 million for baseless accusations he had made about them cheating when they were counting votes in Fulton County, Ga., on Nov. 3, 2020.

On Wednesday, the judge overseeing that case, Beryl A. Howell, ordered Mr. Giuliani to start paying the two women immediately out of concern that he might “conceal his assets” if he were allowed to wait the typical 30 days.

“The filing should be a surprise to no one,” Mr. Giuliani’s political adviser, Ted Goodman, said in a statement. “No person could have reasonably believed that Mayor Rudy Giuliani would be able to pay such a high punitive amount.”

The filing seeking protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code, he said, “will afford Mayor Giuliani the opportunity and time to pursue an appeal, while providing transparency for his finances under the supervision of the bankruptcy court, to ensure all creditors are treated equally and fairly throughout the process.”

In total, Mr. Giuliani said in the filing, he owes creditors $152.7 million as well as other potential damages he faces in pending lawsuits.

Mr. Giuliani owed more than $700,000 in back federal taxes and almost $300,000 in delinquent state taxes.

His bankruptcy filing said he also owed about $1.3 million to a law firm that has represented him in various criminal investigations in recent years. He owes another $387,000 to a firm that has shepherded him through disbarment proceedings in New York and Washington stemming from his efforts to keep Mr. Trump in power.

The bankruptcy filing was the latest in a long line of woes that Mr. Giuliani, a former crusading federal prosecutor and mayor of New York, has suffered in the three years since he took the job as the lead lawyer in Mr. Trump’s attempts to reverse his loss.

His legal work for the former president has led to a lawsuit filed against him by Dominion Voting Systems for outlandish claims that the company helped to rig the presidential race against Mr. Trump. Mr. Giuliani has also been indicted in Georgia in a racketeering case with the former president on charges of tampering with that state’s election.

The bankruptcy filing also cited Mr. Giuliani’s involvement as a defendant in suits brought by Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, and Smartmatic, another voting technology company that became ensnared in conspiracy theories related to Mr. Trump’s loss in the election.

Mr. Giuliani refused to turn over details about his finances in the defamation case brought by Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss. Thursday’s bankruptcy filing was the clearest look yet at the extent of his often murky financial troubles.

Bankruptcy will not prevent Mr. Giuliani from paying damages to Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss, because those damages are considered an “intentional tort,” lawyers said.

In October, the I.R.S. placed a lien on Mr. Giuliani’s property in Palm Beach, Fla., for his failure to pay more than $500,000 in income taxes. Mr. Giuliani and his ex-wife tried to sell it for $3.3 million in 2019 but did not find a buyer, The Palm Beach Daily News reported at the time.

Mr. Giuliani is also trying to sell his Upper East Side apartment in New York for $6.1 million.

Mr. Giuliani made millions of dollars a year in private law practice after he left public office. His divorce from his third wife exposed the couple’s once-lavish lifestyle with a $230,000-a-month spending habit, six houses and 11 country club memberships.

In May 2018, as he left his law firm to work with Mr. Trump, Mr. Giuliani had about $1.2 million in cash and about $40,000 in credit card debt, according to recently released documents that were part of a criminal investigation that never led to any charges. The documents show that by early 2019, Mr. Giuliani was down to $400,000 in cash and had up to $110,000 in credit card debt.

At the beginning of the federal trial to determine damages owed to Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss, Mr. Giuliani’s lawyer, Joseph Sibley IV, warned that even $43 million would be the civil equivalent of the death penalty.

The women filed another defamation suit against him on Monday for continuing to spread the same lies about them.
