When I landed in Monterrey CA last September and unpacked my bag in my camper, I found a cheap torch lighter in my bag. Forgot it was in there. My bag went through TSA in Chicago, got checked on the walkway, got shipped to Monterrey while I got held overnight in San Francisco. I figured I'd do the same on the flight home. Bag went through TSA in Monterrey, carried on the plane, then got checked on the walkway at LAX and picked up in Chicago.
I've never flown international.
Torches are a no-no, typical TSA consistency.

Torch Lighters
Carry On Bags: No
Checked Bags: No
Torch lighters create a thin, needle-like flame that is hotter (reaching 2,500 F) and more intense than those from common lighters. Torch lighters are often used for pipes and cigars, and maintain a consistent stream of air-propelled fire regardless of the angle at which it is held.
