What to do with the cigars you don't really enjoy.

I'm always willing to try different cigars, though tend to most enjoy stronger, full bodied smokes. Every so often I end up with sticks that I just don't enjoy smoking, but still have a bunch hanging around. Essentially rolled the dice and lost. Don't have the heart to chuck 'em, but they are taking up valuable humidor space. What do other folks do with their 'rejects'?

I, like you, tend to prefer the stronger cigars. I find myself "regifting" those less-then-desired sticks. You just have to remember where they came from so you don't 'regift" back to the same person!

Find someone that might be looking for some of your particular cigars; offer a trade and state what you're interested in. There's other boards other than this one that you could try also. I smoke everything from mild up to full bodied cigars, but prefer the stronger ones. Good Luck.

Hey, one person's junk is often another's favorite. You ought to consider joining a trade group. Check out the "Trade" board -- the "Magnificent 7" is bringing in new members now. There are a couple of rules, including no short filler (no REAL junk). Otherwise, another suggestion is to flavor your less-than-desirables. I haven't tried it yet, but there are suggestions posted on this board if you search.

I usually will gift them. For example I have a friend who enjoys smoking a cigar now and then and I had given him about 5 cigars after him and his wife took care of our cats while we were on vacation. He commented that he really liked one in particlar...it just so happens that I don't care for the ones he liked which is why he got them in the first place. So the next time I see him he'll get the rest of them. I truly believe that, in life, you "get" by giving. I can afford to be generous at the moment....so it gives me pleasure to give when I can (especially cigars)......please no unsolicited requests for free cigars, I not that well off ;-)

I keep a humidor of giveaways (ie, cigars that I don't particularly care for) in my bar for guests. Not many are cigar smokers, but they want to try one when they see me smoking so I hand them the box of giveaways and let them hack and burn away at the stick of their choosing. They are impressed by the box and are happy to mooch a free stick off me. Investing in a humidor for giveaways is money well-spent because it saves you money by drawing attention away from your premiums and unloads those sticks that come up snake eyes when you buy to try.

If they are just too mild for me, I too prefer strong cigars, I'll smoke them in the morning. If they are "not my cup of tea" then I'll either offer them in trade or smoke them as yard work cigars. If they are crapola I will fertilize my wife's roses with them.

I'm a member of a cigar club called the Village Idiots. From time to time one of our members will post that they know a cigar smoker down on their luck and in need of cigars. I'm usually good for 10-20. Also unwanted gars are great for moochers.

BTW, here's are website incase your interested: www.villageidiots.org

This is a good old thread. I’m also working my way through as many brands and blends and vitolas as I can store. The only cigars I’ve ever thrown out are Maker’s Choice Vanilla. I smoked…”smoked”…five out of a bundle of 25 that I paid $25 for. I’ve had a few 5 packs I didn’t enjoy but I smoked them anyway because I’m cheap and hard headed. I had a 10 pack of Alec Bradley Vandals The Con and all 10 would burn canoe and sideways out the middle behind the burn line. Rocky Patel Catch 22 was another 10 pack of dog rockets. And as I said, a few fivers as well. I don’t know anyone who smokes cigars. My one friend who did smoke only put MC Media Noche under his nose and he has quit smoking cigars. I don’t want to dump cat turds in the trades board unless someone says they want to try something they’ve never had then I could send onesies and twosies along with better cigars. I live in a rural area and no herf events near me. Believe me, I’ve got my eyes and ears open for someone that I can give away cigars too.
I appreciate the tips you guys shared in the above comments.

Those OFTH shirts are the main shirts I wear. I wish we could try to this again and get something like it going again.

@cheno there’s still places to send cigars. I can get the fine details if you need them However if one of you fellas does a large scale donation I’d be willing to send a pretty good few. I miss the ofth drives. They were sorta ahead of my time.

If you have been smoking cigars for a while……say…….10 years or so?
You shouldn’t have any cigars you don’t enjoy, other than mediocre yard gars that were gifted to you.
What to do with them?
Lots of options…….troops……your neighbor the annoying moocher……..you poser brother-in-law………..your son’s drunk friends……I could go on.
I’ve done all of the above…

True story.

Most of the addresses in my spreadsheet are no longer valid.
