I vowed that I was done buying cigars for awhile and then my favorite Canary Island handmades presented themselves. Monte Canarios went to cigar heaven a few years ago. The cost of production in the Canary Islands was apparently too high for the post boom era, and this brand bit the dust. I'm on my last box of figurados, purchased at least five years ago for over $150 a box. I rarely buy lonsdales, but wouldn't pass on these. I'm sure the buyers at Cigarbid must have picked up a job lot from a liquidator, so these will probably be available again. If you'd like to try the epitome of a cigar that has flavor, but is extremely mild, try a Monte Canario. It is the antithesis of where the industry is going now with LLMaduro Fuerte, Bolivar Fuerte, VSG, ERDM, etc. They were sold as being made of Canary Island brena tobacco. Believe me, they are not puros. Monte Canarios sold outside the US reportedy often had Cuban tobacco in their blend. Some that I've purchased since the label shut down I suspect had forbidden fruit. Steve, I'm trying to understand something...If I love a particular cigar (especially if they aren't made anymore) I would never post a message on here telling everyone else how great it is, etc...If I did that, then people will overbid on my favorite cigar and I will end up paying wayyyy too much $$$...Why on earth would anyone do that?....Steve, To be honest, this makes me suspect that you probably are employed by C-bid because this is the second time you've posted about a favorite cigar in this fashion...LOL..Just my $0.02....Keith

Keith: Thanks for the comments. No, I have no association with C-bid. I currently have nine large coolers filled with cigars from darn near every cigar manufacturing country on earth, even Bali. It's doubtful that I'll ever smoke them all. Part of my pleasure in smoking cigars for the past forty years has been sharing the knowlege and experience I get. I could care less if someone outbids me on any cigar at this site. I get as much pleasure knowing that they trust my opinion as I do actually smoking the cigars. Hey, these things are consummables. We light them on fire, savor them for awhile, and throw the vestige away. When I decide to bid on a cigar, it's either because it's an old friend that I may never see again, or something that I want to try and share with friends. If you look at my bidding pattern, you'll see that I don't buy high end product at this site. I don't know who C-bid is, and I assume all purchases are made, basically, without warranty. When I buy prime, top end cigars; Ashton VSG, Fuente Opus, etc. I only buy where I have unquestioned return privileges. If I get a box of Opus XX shipped at $300+, and they arrive as dry as 10-year-old dog turds, I want to be absolutely sure that I'm not going to get stuck with them, even if the problem is with UPS or USPS. This site is for playing and experimenting. If I get something I abhor, I just drop them off at one of the veterans' clubs or homeless shelters. The only cigar I've paid over a buck and change for at this site is the 5-pack of Acid Naturals I just picked up. At $4.00 each, they're almost half of what local vendors are getting. I'm giving them a try because I like Jon Drew's past ventures, with the exception of the Acid stinkys, which, like Lars, smell like urinal cakes. If I post that I like a smoke, it's only because I know that C-bid probably has a sch!tload, and they'll be available again. Re: Monte Canarios-I periodically do an internet search to track down the last of the breed. I can usually find a vendor more than eager to get rid of an orphaned box. There's a whole group of Canary Island handmades that have become extinct; Monte Canario, La Nubia, Don Xavier, Vargas, La Palma, etc. You either love them or hate them. Steve

Where are the Monte Canarios? I couldn't find them here at c-bid. Did the bid already close?

... and don't forget Napa Reserve Canary Islands by Robert Mondavi Jr. They are nearly extinxct, but can be had if you look long and hard enough. It took me almost 8 months to find them at a reasonable price through a distributor that was going out of buisness in Georgia. These are my all time favorites, and they too have been suspect of having Cuban tobacco in their filler. One of the panelists at Smoke Magazine swore it was a Cuban in a blind taste test. As far as CB's guarantee, all you have to do is read it in their help section. I have been doing buisness with them for a long time, and their guarantee is one of the best I have ever seen on an internet site. I've seen them bend over backwards, jump through hoops and stand on their heads to correct any problems that folk have had, if they were not satisfied in any way. Ruth was incredible with her services, and I'm sure Trish will follow in her footsteps ...

Wow...Steve...You have more b*lls than I do....I'm afraid to post that I enjoy a certain cigar, especially when there is an open auction and I'm bidding on them...Must be my greediness...Good for you!...Sounds like you have a heart of gold...You know, that's not a bad idea at all you had about donating cigars that you don't want to shelters or (better yet) VFW posts...I have several humidors and could probably stock one with cigars I tend to shy away from and bring it over there...I'm gonna look into that...I'm sure they would appreciate it!...Good job Steve...You brought out the giving person in me..LOL...Keith

Hmm, Slimboli you have shed some light on who C-bid is. I've done business with C-International and they also have customer service reps named Ruth and Trish. Either this is a coincidence beyond compare, or one may be a division of the other. Now the bell of Dark Shark is ringing. Thanks. Steve

They also have La Regenta for $25 a box and Vargas, which I think is one of the worst 'dog rockets' I've ever smoked in my life ... Vargas is one nasty cigar!

Vargas is one of the very badest (I know that is not proper, but it fits) I have ever smoked or smelled! However, the Napa by Mondavi that Slimboli pointed out, is one of the best cigars I have smoked! I wish I could find a nice deal on some of them! If anybody knows where to find please email me at [email protected]! Thanks, Charlie

I must be out of my mind but I had a Vargas this morning with my coffee while picking carrots and pickles and it suited the moment just fine. There not consistant with construction but you get one thats built right and they got a good draw and are a satisfactory morning smoke. There not a HDM Rothschild but there good for the morning.

Are you sure you didn't light up a carrot instead? Vargas really are among the very worst or the bad cigars that once sold for "premium" pricing to the yuppy smokers that once embraced the art of cigars! Charlie

Yeah well, I got a box of them and they are the most palatable of the dog rockets I have experienced so I'll smoke them till there gone, then I'll bad mouth them.

Mr. Mean, how do you pick a pickle? (No Peter Piper jokes please). As for the Monte Canerio, it's funny that this Canary Island smoke has been "rumored" to have Cuban Leaf, since I have heard the same thing about other Canary smokes. Yet, there aren't many on the market. Sounds like another Urban Myth to boost sales.
