I started smoking cigars during the boom in the mid 90s. At that time a lot of guys would post to the JR bulletin board/Forum. One of the guys bestowed the name VILLAGE IDIOTS on the group. Multiple times over a period of years, we would get together in Lew Rothman's Whippany, New Jersey facility for herfs and some annual Village Idiot conventions. We would get a lot of guys and have a great time. While rearranging my largest humidor this morning, I came upon two custom labeled cigars which were handed out at those events. It made me wonder if anybody on the forum ever attended a VI herf. I don't see any way to attach a photo or I'd do so. Everybody had a nickname they posted under. I was Cameroon.

Use a web image host like imgur or some such. Then post the address to the image. It won't be a hypertext link. if someone wants to see the image they have to copy the address and get there on their own. It's a little bit of a work around. Once upon a time, when storage was at more of a premium, that was the norm vs direct uploads to a BB/forum.

I’ve never been to a cigarfest event. I’ve heard that they’ve grown a lot and the prices are going up. Do you think they’re still worth the price of admission?

Don't believe they are having any Cigarfest events in the future.
As pricing goes many could care less about the cost, myself wouldn't be spending the money . Large crowds and long waiting in line for a lousy cigar.
IMHO better off getting a group together to Herf, as the Florida gang is doing tomorrow.

Thanks Ram. I can’t stand very long or walk very far and crowds these days just ruin my attitude. I appreciate the answer.

If you get free cigars included in the price and then value those smokes at what you can get them for, not MSRP, you can make an evaluation. Because I like to age my cigars, I buy well in advance of need and hence have way more cigars than I need, so getting cigars someone else picked out is not an attraction to me. Just meeting up with some good folks and having a herf is a big enough event for most folks. During the boom, the number of places you could smoke a cigar was much greater than today. Alas, summer is just around the corner and the great outdoors is every man's urinal and ash tray.

Started in 84. Many "Big Smoke" events in NYC. 1990's . You were given a coupon book with entry and you had to rip each ticket out and redeem at table for your selection. You finished up with 20 or so sticks. Photo /Mag cover booth. Talked to Marvin a few diff events and drank a few New Whiskeys . Back then Del Frisco steak house was just picking up speed and would slice out steak sandwiches. Great times. It appears we are past the "novelty smokers" and now we are back with the genuine crowd

Never attended any events but worked on Wall Street all through 90’s.
If being surrounded by a million azzhats in suspenders puffing away on fake Cohibas counts as a gathering then I was there.
Unfortunately.

I was heavily into cigars during the boom to the extent that I could not regularly get my hands on what I wanted. Used to love Avo, HdM and whatever I could get my hands on, which was like 30 years ago. Now, I smoke EXACTLY what I want...
