Well being Sicilian, I'd have to say the Sopranos. I've only seen a few episodes. The first season and beginning of the second. Don't remember many gar scenes. Up here in Boston, things fall off the truck often. Sometimes a few sticks! Then you "****EHDABOUTIT"

Sopranos, hands down. By the way...it's Montecristo's that Tony has all the time in his mouth. Tony even shared a whole box of ISOM's with his snobby neighbor. The guy can't be all that bad.

I'd have to say NYPD Blue. Been watching that one since the beginning. Have only missed one or two episodes. One reason could be the better looking chicks. Wow, that Donna Abandando (Gail O'Grady) character!!!! What a knock up. Right now Charlotte Ross makes the show shine. Good jugs, good bun.

Having said that, Danish TV has just started a re-run of the Sopranos, and I've been watching from the beginning (I think we're at episode 12). The first time it was on it didn't really catch my attention, but I have to say that it is rather good. One thing I have to say though is, why are nearly everyone (the wise guys) so dumb? Not really dumb, but slighthy unintelligent? At least they sound so. The girls at Bada Bing (dontya' just love that name?) could be another reason to gawk at the show. LOL!

Neither. I'm a Law & Order junkie. I watch all four versions. Also CSI, The Shield, Robbery-Homicide Division and true life crime stuff like American Justice, Cold Case Files and City Confidential on A&E.

Good question, Rick. I've never seen either show. But I think Micheael Corleone smoked a panatela in Godfather I/II, two of the greatest movies ever made. Thanks for the reminder. I am overdue to see them both again.

Vibe, I remember that episode. Wasn't that the same episode when Tony gave his neighbor a small heavy package and asked him to "keep it for me for a while"? It ends with the neighbor and his wife staring at the box wondering what in the world was in it. It was a joke - just full of bricks. That was a funny moment!
Anyway, except for that episode, I think Tony usually smokes CAO Anni maduros. I even read that CAO has a contract with the show.

Take a look at the opening when he's driving the parkway...Monte! At the Bada-Bing...Monte! When he's at the Disposal office...Monte!

I know the episode...that was funny. My fave was the one with Pauly and Christopher go hunting for a Russian wiseguy.

The look of Pauly's hair disshevled and eyes wide open yelling at Christoper because he was "holding out" on him by eating the tic-tac's...Classic!

The 2 hour episode with **** as a fish was good too!

Vinny Pastore (Big ****) had an endorsement deal with Don Diegos Players Club cigars. The cigars website had Vinny describing the cigars and what he liked to do while smoking each one. Unfortunately, Just like Big P, the site went to sleep with the fishes for some reason.
I think more people would like the Sopranos if there were a laugh track..It's more of a comedy than a drama. I crack up just looking at Silvios and Paulie's hair.

Sopranos just happens to be the very best show EVER on Television! That said, I loved the episode Pine Barrons with Paulie and Christopher lost in the woods! When Christopher said, "Going to Denny's and eat about 4 or 5 Grand Slams.....!" what a crackup!

However, I do like NYPD Blue & Law and Order! But Sopranos is the best of the best and we only have this season and one more of them left to go!

Guess I'm admitting to not watching much TV, but've never seen an episode of NYPD Blue and only one of the Soprano's, which I didn't even realize was a police show ... hell, I was paying so little attention, I thought it was a show about loveable gangsters ...

I'll try to study harder and be more prepared next time.

Oh that was a funny episode, Pauly & Christopher lost in the woods. They were eating ketchup packets they found in that abandoned car.
My absolute favorite part, though, was when Pauly went to see a psychic after Christopher's near-death vision of Pauly in hell. When people he had "knocked off" supposedly appeared to the psychic, Pauly threw a chair through the air at the spirits. He was really wigged out. Remember, he was so upset about it that he visited the priest and withdrew his tithe because the priest wasn't holding up his end of the bargain!
For those of you that haven't seen Sopranos, don't misinterpret this thread to mean this is a total comedy. It's actually a pretty serious show but funny things often happen, as they do in life. We see a full view of these guys' daily lives. Tony takes his daughter out of town to visit potential colleges, and during one of his daughter's interviews, he stops by to visit a recently-discovered "old acquaintance" that has been under the witness protection program. He gives him a phone-cord necklace and makes it back to pick up his daughter.

Yeah, Steve, I never saw it all, but radio talk show guy Michael Savage who never misses a Sopranos episode, said this year so far it seems like a show aimed at a female audience.

Not aired at female audience, but have had some strong storylines that have included the ladies more than in the past! The boys are still the story and it is about to heat up over next few episodes!

I may be crazy but I think I've seen a fair number of macanudos on the show as well. I have the second season on DVD as well so I'll have to do some investigating, pun intended :).

Agree, have seen Ashton's, Excalibur's and R & J's from time to time! David Chase, producer, is a cigar smoker and has been written up in CA and Smoke!

Charlie, I watch The Sopranos and like it for what it is trying to convey. However, I think that there's not enough sex and violence for a mobster, cable program...but that's just me. More time in the Bada-Bing and more hits and breaking legs would seem more themematic (sp?), don't you think?

I think it spends too much time on Carmella's cooking and ladies function...boring. Might as well watch reruns of Home Improvement.

And IF there were a laugh track, it'd be just like the hundreds of other stupid, mindless pablum that the powers that be force down our throats.

Originality and pushing the envelope is where it's at...

Back to the original thread, Soprano's (is it a Police Show Rick?). My reason? Network TV sucks.

E - They meld in all of the associtaed events in the mobster world. I like the fact that it's not just T&A and bone breaking, it makes it more realistic and gets away from the stereotypical mobster storylines. The lives of the mobster's families are an often overlooked piece of the story that is crucial to understanding the entire world as a whole.

These are some of the reasons that the show is so good and has won so many awards, it captures the internal struggle of Tony and his family, not just T&A and leg breaking.

That's my two cents...

Definitely the Sopranos. I watch it every week. However, check out Boomtown if you get the chance...it's a pretty good show.

Ditto on Boomtown. Reminds me of the Japanese movie "Rashomon".

I think The Shield beats them all hands down, followed by The Sopranos.

The baddest cop ever in movies, tv, or in real life is Barney Fife (sp?). We wanted him for police commissioner here in Philly but he held out for two bullets and lost the job. JonR

Remember the show when Barney bought the old WWI motorcycle with the sidecar? He was ticketing the truckers on the interstate!!!!! Hilarious!!! Always loved Barney, one of my all time favorite TV characters!
