"A Note of Meat" ... boy, that brings a lot of thoughts, some amusing, none originally my own ...
At the risk of being accused of plagiarism ... not long ago in another thread, one of the guys said he'd never tasted leather, chocolate, or any other of the subtle "hints" one sees mentioned in reviews ... all of his cigars, he said, tasted like tobacco and he liked it that way. I've gotta agree.
But some guys I know ... CWilhelmi being one ... have some pretty highly developed palates and are able to taste subtlety I cannot ... I don't question their ability, but I'm not sure I envy it either ... I'm pleased to have never tasted pencil lead in my cigars.
Slim mentions an aftertaste similar to a good steak ... I've smoked cigars that could I could almost say "yeah, me too" about, but to be honest, I'd never have thought of it first ...
Best of all, though, came in an e-mail I got from Huskey the other day ... he was speaking of his young son and said the boy often sniffs cigars as they arrive ... sometimes he comments that "this cigar smells like our horses stall" ... but those he says "this REALLY smells like our horses stall" are the cigars Huskey likes best ... (forgive me for telling this story, CH ... I couldn't resist!) ... I think that kid has a real future in the cigar reviewing business.
