How exactly does a punch cutter work?
I've always used a guillotine. Are thier any advantages? And any other ways?

I feel the punch cutter is an advantage on any cigar with a rounded cap ... I think it tends to damage the cap less (or at least less often) ... the downside is that the opening is smaller and that tend to resrict the flow somewhat on a large ring gauge cigar (which can also tend to it's becoming a bit damp on the mouth end), but since losing my expensive punch cutter that made a large hole, I make three overlapping holes with the one I've got on those large ring gauges ...

You "use" it by gently twisting it back and forth while applying a small amount of pressure ... think of it as being much like slicing a loaf of hot bread ... and don't squish the loaf

You have to be careful not to apply too much pressure or you'll bust the cap. Also make sure your punch is sharp.

Happy punching. I've given up on the punch and go with the cutter. I invested in a Palio and it's a good sharp cutter.

Anyone using a scissor cutter? They look like they may be alot of work.

Palio makes the absolute best of the punch cutters ... they make a two-punch unit which has a "normal" sized cutting blade and an "oversize" blade ... expensive, to say the least, but it's the best on the market, bar none

I use all 3!!

Punch cutter on the key ring for all coronas, smaller than 46 ring.

Guilotine for larger rings and torpedos, and the scissors when i want a straight across cut, but just a little cleaner.

The scissors are the best cut i would say, versus the 2 blade guillotine at least. But its just not really practical.

i bought a box of shell casings for about $5.00. the casings are marked on the bottom 45-70 govt. sharpen the inside of the casing with a dremal and the outside with a sander. you have less than a quarter invested and it cuts better than most punches.

i believe you could use it to remove corns or moles, but since i don't have any, i can't be sure.

I've become a fan of the notch,( actually, aren't most of us?). At a famous Tobacco store on rt. 95 in N. Carolina I found a notch cutter for $2.95. Been using it for 2 years and it still works great.

Rick, you have no moles? Would it work with a wart?

10-4 Slim. Mine gives me a clean cut almost everytime, unless the cigar's too wet.
