Ok guys, basically my humidifier broke a little bit, and i needed to secure the cover with some clear packaging tape to make it stay on so that it would hold from the magnet---Will this impart a fould odor or flavor to my precious stogies? The tape doesn't seem to have a strong odor, but any insight would be helpful.

While on this subject, is there anything along the lines of tapes, glues or other things to secure humidifiers and hygrometers to the inside of a humidor that would be detrimental to the well being of cigars?

Thanks

While I can't comment on the effect of tape, I've had very good success using small droplets of superglue to fasten magnets and hygrometers to the inside of my humidors. In my experience, these things never seem to stick with the adhesive they come with. The great thing about superglue is that you hardly have to use any at all to get the job done, and I've never noticed any kind of residual effect on my cigars. I'm sure purists will find some reason to fault this, but hey, it works and those suckers stay in place!

One problem with super glue: If you ever want to relocate your present humidifier, or you get a new one that needs to be elsewhere, the glue will have soaked into the wood and you will have a crappy glue mark. Use double sided tape or velcro tape. Flat magnets work too. No offense gerber.

the heavy duty double sided tape has always been my friend in that situation.

Good call on the downside of superglue. For my own part, I don't plan on having to remove them, but this is certainly a consideration. I'll have to give the double-sided tape a try next time.

OK .. now I've got a question .. may be a dumb one ...

Why not replace it instead of repairing it? They're a pretty cheap item ... better yet, why not make your own replacement ?

I got rid of the humidifiers that came with my humidors and made my own replacements ... I didn't do that because they broke, but because I could make replacements that worked better and would take less effort to maintain ...

The only problem i have with making my own is a question of size. I have a humi with a piece of wood with cut out areas for the humidifier--should i just make my own and velcro it right over the fairly small opening thats already there? maybe you could throw a link my way to tell me how to make one...

thanks a lot

I've got a large humidor with 4 humidifiers attatched to the lid. They kept falling off. The adhesive on the back of the magnet wasn't strong enough. I used a hot melt glue gun and they have stayed put ever since. I glued the magnet to the lid and the other to the humidifier. It worked for me.
