Just finished a nice weekend out at Pyramid Lake, Nevada. This place serves up some of the largest cutthroat trout in the country.

I went with a couple buddies from work and brought along a nice assortment of cigars to fish with.

The nighttime weather was around 9-10 degrees. Daytime ran from 19 at sunrise to about 50 near sunset. We trolled between 45 and 25 feet in 50-130 feet of water. Bite was off Friday I smoked a Cusano MC torpedo to start the day. Mid day was a Sinatra My Way...which helped me along as I cought the first two fish. I had to toss them back since they were undersized (less than 16"). Had a few more bites. I lit up a Sportsman's Reserve Torpedo as the sun set and we put in. Got it wet bringing the boat up on the trailer...gave it a heave ho.

Friday night...hit the little tavern and smoked a Perdomo Square Maduro as a nightcap. I don't know if it was altitude (4000ft) or the dry cold air, but I had a tough time keeping this one lit. Tasted great but I had to work at it.

Saturday morning, started with a Sportsman's Reserve Churchill. This time the fishing started off better. Lots of bites a couple keepers in the 21"to 23" range.

Mid day I lit up a Vegas de Regios (Tubo)Churchill. I had these set back in the humidor for 7-8 months and it smoked great. This cigar lasted 2 hours plus and we landed almost 30 fish while I smoked it. My buddies didn't want me to finish it. Seemed the cigar brought good luck. Smoked it down to my moustache and had to toss it. Fish stopped biting right after that. Tried to get the bite back on with a Perdomo "The Cigar". This one tasted okay, but I had a tough time getting it to draw well. Went out 2-3 times and then started to crater. Must have been the wind or something.

We were pretty tired after 2 hours of fighting and landing 3-5 lb trout. We headed in, caught a few more but the early sunset (4:30) chased us off the water.

That night I had an AVO XO Tubo for a nigtcap. That was one great smoke. Nice and relaxing.

Heard a lot of fish stories. I felt sorry for the mass quantities of the locals smoking Swishers and Hav A Tampas. I couldn't get any to try one of mine except for the lady bartender. She gave the AVO 2 thumbs up. She said at least what I was smoking smelled a whole lot better tham the Marlboros and Swishers. We had a fine weekend. Landed 30-40 total fish. Shook off a dozen or so small ones. We kept a total of 12 fish (2 a day limit) our big one was just under 5 lbs and 28". The lake record runs about 28 lbs, but that was long ago. The big fish of the lake for the weekend was 10lb 8oz caught by a local.

Fishing was a little under average for this place but we had a fine weekend. Got to try a bunch of cigars I put away to get to later. I wasn't disappointed by any of them except the "My Cigar". I haven't been able to warm up to these yet. Maybe some humi time will work.

Well that's all, just wanted to share my weekend. I would have taken some pictures but I forgot to bring disks for my camera and they don't sell them anywhere within 40 miles of where we were staying. Oh well.

It probably got down to 50° on our lakes last night. Guess you don't have to worry about your fish spoiling. They are frozen when you catch em.

Someone has to live in the wastelands. Glad it's not me.

A man after my heart. Nothing better than fishing with good company and good cigars.

In southeast Tx. we don't have to fish such cold weather. My favorite time is Indian Summer, which is just around the corner. The water on the power plant lakes stays in the 80's to 90's in the winter. I've had to put my hands in the water just to warm up!

Right now it's Flounder time and I've got a spot picked out if the rain would ever subside.

No G.Y.O. I don't live in that wasteland....I just fish there. The scenery leaves a lot to be desired.

I prefer warm weather bass fishing anytime, but this lake is on an indian reservation and they are only open to fish between October and March.

Still....away from the spouse for 3 days means I can sample a lot of cigars in a short amount of time.
