Now with the House, Senate, and White House all in agreement... wouldn't it be nice to see something like a flat tax across the nation.. it would put things in better perspectives and get back what is lost and losing in the Social Security's and other area's of our nations economy... myself I am tired of seeing my hard earned dollors get dwindled away at higher taxes and eroding economy!!!!

On another note: I see the percentage rates dropped another 1/2 percent today... I think this is the lowest it has been since they created Social Security???

Laterzzzz

Hey Hog,

Flat tax? Why would you want something simple coming out of Washington, it's unthinkable! Just think of the destruction of social engineering through taxation! Not only that, but the "rich" would pay the same rate as the "not so rich". That is just not fair. We need to soak the wealthy, aren't you jealous of someone making more money than you?. And if you are wealthy, don't you feel guilty?

And how about all the IRS employees..what about their jobs?

Sorry hog, a flat tax just makes too much sense.

The nice thing about the current tax system is it helps create jobs. Do you know how many H&R Blocks and such would go out of business if the tax was that simple!

Of course that is the ONLY nice thing about the current tax system.

Because the folks who are exploiting the many loopholes in the present system are the same people who are giving the money to finance your candidate's next election campaign. Now repeat after me,
Quid pro quo, Quid pro quo, Quid pro quo.............

There's also opposition from people who would really benefit from it, but don't SEE that benefit and so they're opposed ...

The biggest reason is that all liberals would feel that the wealthy are not paying their "fair share".
How dare we impose a system that makes the poor "pay the same as the rich". I know, since it's a percentage of income that's not actually the truth.
But since when did redefining the "truth" stop the Democrats......?

The way we need to pacify the liberals into allowing the flat tax is to allow generous personal and child deductions, a marriage deduction, and deductions for charitable donations (up to say $5000)

every person-$15000
Every child- $5000
Marriage- $5000

so that a family with 2 married parents can have an untaxed household income of $35,000 plus $5000 per child.

Sales tax excluding food and staples would be more fair. A flat tax for heavy consumers like Babs Streisand who make 25 million/year is a gift from above. For example, take 20% of her income and she still has 20 million to keep the wolf from the door. Take 20% from someone making $60,000 and it makes a serious dent in his lifestyle. Flat tax is for millionaires. Of course, so is the present system.

LLT.
The Flat tax could actually generate MORE taxes from the millionaires, because all of the present loopholes and deductions are eliminated.
How our society feels that income beyond a certain level deserves to be taxed higher is outrageous. It's like giving a penalty for success. Besides, when people keep their money they either spend or invest thereby stimulating the economy in the long run.
When we give it to Uncle Sam it gets lost in the black hole we call the Federal Budget.
