........... the longest ash you guys have gotten from one of your gars? I smoked a Drew Estate "Root" last night and the ash came damn close to 3 inches. I got all warm and fuzzy inside. Wish I had a camera with me.

My local retail store had a longest ash contest one day, and of course I entered. My ash fell after a little over an inch (it was a breezy day). However, the winner's ash came all the way down to his fingertips. We were all smoking Leon Jimenes Robustos, and he smoked it down to under an inch with the initial ash still holding strong. Believe it or not, he put the cigar down in the ashtray when he was done, and the ash didn't break off or anything. Pretty amazing.

I've been told I have a big ash...but long?

LOL!

I've had nearly all of mine hang on to between 2" and 3"...or more? I usually draw comments on my ash (no pun intended here) and people have actually said to knock my ash off. Not me!

Only once did I have a cigar that was too damned stubborn to let the ash grow...kept going out. I think it was a Montesino??? Should have definitely remembered that one.

I won the "longest ash" contest at Holiday Herf II. Had to smoke a Bering Irish Creme (6x50). YUCK!!! Smoked it right through the band; had blisters on my fingertips. LOL While smoking that cigar was not pleasurable, winning the Mayorga humidor was. :)

Winston Churchill used to jam a paper clip through the middle of his cigar when he was going into a big meeting with some European potentate. His ash would just hang there...suspended...in mid air...while the other guy was mesmerized, wondering when it would drop off. It helped Winston divert the other guy's mind when he was trying to gain some diplomatic concession. I don't believe he ever won a humidor for it, though. Makes me wonder if anyone else who has won these contests knew anything about Winston's little trick!
