I have the next three days off and my wife will be at the dog show all weekend. Anyone know if the cigar tax rate is worth the drive from Seattle to Portland to try and score a box of Opus somewhere?

Washington state has one of the highest 'sin' taxes in the country ... I believe around 75% on the wholesale price of the cigar.

Oregon's is around 65% ... you decide if it's worth it.

Naaw...Save even more money by spending the weekend at home in front of the computer bidding on several items here, thereby saving you even more (no tobacco taxes at all)..heh heh heh ;)

Road trips are always fun, but don't expect to save money. Go for the adventure. Order what you want from the web,(usually no tax), and rent the movie "Road Trip." Watch it in your underwear while smoking a fat one.

Perhaps you should head in the opposite direction and pick up some contraband. And the tobaco tax in Wa, as voted into law by citizen initiative last year, is 149%.

I second the motion. Go to Vancouver and pick up some Habanos. Probably won't cost much more than Opus. Call me when you get them. How far you from Port Orchard?

Pt. Orchard? Geez, my flight instructor had me land at Pt. Orchard because I wasn't keeping it on the centerline at Boeing Field. When he pointed out the runway it looked like a sidewalk to me. That was over 15 years ago. I live in Edmonds.

Yeah, P.O. airport ain't a giant modern airport like Bremerton "National". But it's just right for offloading late night shipments of Cuban cigars--no customs officer on duty. Better take lots and lots of money. B.C. prices are as bad or worse than Washington.

Be careful in Edmonds. Got a speeding ticket there for riding my Harley.

I just love to get my 89 caprice and take a road trip, a few months ago went from Colorado to Montana and savored the drive, and stopped at as many Taco John's as possible through Wyoming. The car is huge with an ex-police interceptor engine and got an impressive 13.5 mpg.

I third the Habano motion. I thought Califonia led the pack on tobacco tax.

what about Canada? While listening to the radio last night someone called in and mentioned in December a pack of cigarettes is going up to C$15 a pack! About $8 in US money. Hello black market.
