Just had my first Gran Consul. Now I'm no beginner at this and all I have to say is woah! Guys, this is not or the faint of hearts. I'm having a little difficulty typing this because the keyboard is still spinning. Great cigar, but this one is a bucking bronco. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for an ass kicking. I don't know guys, am I just a wimp? Any opinions? I have to go lie down.

yep, this baby really makes you puff at a litttttle slower pace than you might sometimes do ... I've had the same experience with the torp, too ... MrsS even commented that she'd never seen me react quite like that while smoking a cigar ... I offered her a hit on it, but she said no way in hell, not if it produced that much of a reaction in me ... LOL

Not for the faint of heart indeed ...

Way too harsh and peppery. Almost non-smokeable. It is so strong and peppery that I don't know if time in the box would cause it to mellow much. Are they trying to out Cuban the Cubans? If so, they are in strength, but not depth.

You're just a wimp..LOL..J/K...They are a very strong, fairly (IMHO) complex cigar...I really love them!
The first one seemed straightforward strength w/o any real flavors, but the second and thereafter, I detected several other flavors at different lengths of the cigar...YUMMY!

I smoked the one that's box pressed 1st (not sure what it's called) and I was sure glad it was late, I was full and didn't need to function. The Gradn Consul awaits me, it's napping.

Made me sweat profusely and stumble about. I like a full-bodied cigar, but these are over the top. Traded most of a box for some smokes that don't make me feel like I just went 10 rounds with Lennox lewis.

Well, it's been several hours now, and I think I've finally recuperated. The moral of this story is- be afraid, be very afraid.
I can't wait to have another. Yeeeeehaaaaaaa!!!!

if these are too strong for you, try the regular line, they've been around for a long time, but they are still in my top ten favorites, very very flavorful and not so powerful.

eleltea ... tell you what ... I'll spring for two Antanos AND breakfast if I can watch you smoke the cigars back-to-back before you've had anything to eat, then watch you eat breakfast ... I won't sit directly in front of you, of course, I want to have you within sight, but be out of range (so to speak) ... perhaps across the room.

My father who is a 30 yr cigarette smoker and is about 6'6" 275 lbs. is just getting into cigars. He sucked down and Opus X Super Belicoso in about the same time it took me to smoke a Fuente Cuban Corona. A few days later he smoked two Ashton VSG Enchantments in the time it took me to have one Hemingway Classic. Nothing was strong enough for his tastes. So I gave him one of the Joya de Nicaragua Antano Gran Consuls and he was almost floored. His head was spinning and he had to have a couple glasses of water before heading home. Make no mistake.. these are STRONG cigars. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't tried them or perhaps tried the older version. For me, it's so strong that it's not very enjoyable.

Someone from the CB football pool sent me one of these and I couldn't finish it. It reminded me of the La Gloria Series 4 or 5 but stronger. It's like smoking a hand full of pepper corns. Not that I have.
