I have ordered a few packs of coffee from CI and by the description given you would think that Juan Valdez himself was picking the beans and roasting them one by one to make the ultimate small batch roast coffee. With that in mind my expectations where low, only because if somebody tries that hard to make something that attractive it is usually a dud. Case in point any blind date anybody has had with a friends cousin who he just could not stop talking about. Most dates ended with a friendly hand shank and a stern talking to with the friend. Unless you really wanted to get back at the friend then tell him what color his cousins panties are. I digress
The coffee was El Major and La Estral Cubano both are the richest coffee I have ever had. Trust me I am no stranger to coffee and cigars when I say its good I mean it kicks Starbuck's butt. Sorry if anyone of you are stockholders. The coffee compliments a Onyx Reserve or even a PAM. I have my bags let the bidding begin on the one up for sale now.

That's because Starbuck's sucks.

I haven't tried those two coffees yet, but I'm enjoying some 5 vegas coffe right now along with a 5 vegas torpedo. I must say, they're both excellent.

I have had El Mejor coffee, and it it is good, however the best that CB has on auction is Mayorga Genuine Counterfeit Cuban coffee. I have not had 5 Vegas coffee,so I can't compare it to that. X

I've been reading about that, jj. Actually I'm thinking of getting a friend of mine a 50 lb sack of unroasted beans for christmas.

I've read lots of places that you can use certain models of air popcorn popper to roast beans. Have you tried this, per chance?

Intel, Ive got a bag of La Estrella Cubana. Got it last week. It does have a strong flavor but I happen to like it. Even though its strong tasting it doesnt seem to have any more of a caffine kick than other domestic brands I drink. Just my opinion. Mag

Just got some La Estrella Cubana-- quite good. Regarding Starbucks, how in the world do they brew that stuff so bitter? I mean you can buy the beans and brew it at home and it's okay. But if I buy a cup at a Starbucks store and I have to throw it away. McDonald's serves a better cup of coffee.

Santyth,I have the Hearthware gourmet roaster you can find them at Sweet marias.I haven't tried an air pop corn popper,I kinda like the convenience of the timer and a cool down cycle of the Hearthware. My favorite coffee beans so far would be Guatemalan Huehue Tenango and the Mexican coffees from the Oaxaca region.Sweet Marias has a lot of good info BTW.

Check out the 20lb coffee samplers at coffee wholesalers or order a few 5lb bags of different beans, unless your friend is really into that bean to the tune of 50 lbs...LOL

Rookie ... considering the time you posted your last couple of responses here, that (or almost ANY) coffee must've been an absolute necessity of life ...

Cops have to be good at coffee. And drink a lot of it. We have funny hours too.

Rayder, I know what you mean about the funny hours ... my policeman son came by the house last night on one of his seemingly rare nights off ... he works 6 12 hour shifts one week and 4 12 hour shifts the next, then repeats the cycle ... in theory, this gets him 5 consecutive days off every other week, but he often gets asked to work on some of what should have been days off, which screws that up ...

His current assignment is in the county jail where there's a total population of about 4,000 prisoners ... he gets to tuck all the guys on his block into bed, put up with their middle of the night zaniness and demands and judge who really has to see the doctor and who's BSing him, then starting at about 4am, he's got to get about 300-400 guys up, what passes for washed, dressed, fed and onto the busses for their first thing in the morning court appearances ...

I like Diedrichs coffee and really have no interest in roasting my own coffee beans, just like I have no interest in rolling my own cigars!!!! Sorry!

Peaberry in CO is the best place I've ever been too as far as chains and mom & pop stores. Incredible depth and richness, and never bitter!! Eventually I will buy a commercial espresso machine, just waiting till I buy a place...

Was in a local eatery Egg-Cetera at the Summit last week where they serve primarily Fuente coffee. haven't been able to talk them in to selling me any yet but that will come soon. Very rich without the bitter aftertaste. I would suggest trying some if you are a coffee connoisseur.

I agree with Keith - Killer Beans are good! I've had Mayorga, Montecristo (made by Mayorga I think?), which are both awesome, but the batches of Killer Beans I've had were really fresh, oily - perfect. Check out killerbeans.com - I think you can only order by phone right now, but it's worth the effort. Jerry of Leyenda Cigars I believe is the contact person on this; he's a stand-up guy. Any of you know if there's a different way to order?
