Is this item worth the $$, or going the 'old fashioned' route just as good? Someone on Ebay has 98 of them for sale for $69.95 + $9.00 shipping.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

What's for sale on ebay?? If you're talking about the green foamy material I bought a big block of the stuff at a crafts store for less than $2.

I've got one and I like it. However I'm new enough to this that I've never tried the traditional route.

Maintenance free = good. :)

You can buy them for about $80 at several reputable dealers, so why risk buying from an unknown at ebay to save $10?

I have been thinking about one also, from time to time you could pick one up on yahoo auctions cheaper than e-bay. But i cant bring my self to pay 60.00+ for something that only cost 2.00 to do the same job. KEEP IN MIND replacement carts. for the cigar oasis run another 15-20 bucks.

Like efm said, I just picked up a big green block for $1.47 of the stuff at a local hobby shop. Make your own, save some $.

The cartridge is refillable. They "reccomend" that you replace it after two refills, but I've heard many people say they've never bought another and have had no problems whatsoever.

us or we older folk don't have any idea what the folk you all are talking about.

the oaises we know about is a green absorbent thing we buy for a dollar or two and make humidifiers by cutting pieces from the block.

or i believe valentino had a girl brought to him at his oaises. same thing almost.

please explain this $80.00 oaises to a guy that just bought, right here, at this location, 250 cigars for $120.00 including shipping which i believe was $100.00.

I don't know how to show you what it is withoug linking to a competing site, since the manufacturer site is down. (which would be www.cigaroasis.com)

Basically it's a device with a hygrometer in it. When it detecs humidity levels lower than what you set it to, a fan kicks in and humidifies the humidor. Seems you can't beat it for maintenance-free humidity.

i see.

i see 5 humidors with this device.

i see $500. + shipping.

i see about $250.00 worth of cigars protected.

my grandfather used to keep his cigars, both of them, in his jacket pocket. his partly smoked one in a saucer to have with his tea in a glass with a spoon and a lump of sugar in his mouth, in the morning remember lee?

me i buy crappy cigars as evidenced by my previous post. (NO GOOD DEALS? PART 2, 11/16/02)(it seems like almost a month ago that i posted that.) they light better when they are dry.

These things humidify up to 5 cubic feet,so your not going to put them in a desk top type of humidor.They are perfect for large coolerdors and smaller cabinet style humidors = $90 / protecting $500-$2000+? worth of cigars.

I've also read/heard that the secret to the longevity of the cartridges is not to let them get excessively dry.so they are still somewhat but not totaly maintenance free. I'm thinking of buying a couple of these or combining all of my smokes into a cabinet and going with a set and forget system from Bob Staebell for about $300.

I HAve A 50 Qt Cooler ANd I Use A 3" Block Of Green Foam In It And I Must Keep The Lid Cracked In The Sumer To Keep The Humidty Down.It WOrks Great.
If You Want To Get Fancy.Buy A Radio Shack 63-1030 Wireless Hygrometer It Works Very Well.

BBJ ... having to keep the lid cracked in summer is, I imagine, partially a function of what part of the country you live in ... if you're in an area where the ambient humidity is in the 90's, you've got an entirely different problem maintaining 70 in a humidor than someone living in, say, Arizona does ....
