Some of you guys live in states where the cigar taxes are obscene. I buy most of my cigars thru C-bid and the big net retailer, but sometimes I like to wander around in a cigar store walk-in, smell the air, and windowshop the newer smokes. Today while Christmas shopping at the Irving, Texas mall, I walked out with:
2 Hemingway Signature maduros (!) $8 ea.
1 Fuente Reserva Xtra Viejo torp (The Shark) $12
1 Fuente Reserva Xtra Viejo toro $10

The shop is run by a lady who really knows her cigars! They didn't have any Opus X or PAM.

How do your local prices compare?

I just got mail yesterday that one of my shops got a special shipment of Fuentes. Anejo, Best Seller, Masterpiece Maduro and Untold Story. I printed it and gave it to my wife,(my birthday is Tues.), so she would know what to ask for, he,he. I'll let you know about the prices.
I had a site that Slim posted with MSRP for Fuente, but I couldn't find it. Slim?

... it still bugs me that Gonz took away our ability to use HTML here ... so much easier to post the links.

Those prices sound the same as ours. You can get Hemingways almost year round but I missed the OPUS X by 1 day again!

The shop manager reminded me the Fuente Anejos (Reserva Xtra Viejo) are the Opus X blend with maduro wrappers. Will let you know. Some of these are going to die over the holidays.

They are not a FOX W/maddy wrappers. They are a blend unto themselves. XLNT too,I might add. The 1st release are so far the best,IMO. The tobacco was cured in old cognac barrels. It does not overwhelm the tobacco, but it does influence the taste. X

I actually picked up a few of these while out of town this week. I smoked one and loved it. I usually don't smoke the stronger gars, but I enjoyed this. Prices were $10.87 and $11.51. The shop I stopped at had the most Fuentas I've seen lately. They had all the flavors. I don't get why some only have Curly Heads and others have a boatload of them all!

Visited the stewartcomputer.com web references. Prices look pretty fair. How do you contact them to order same? I couldn't figure the link connection.

eleltea --- "... the Fuente Anejos (Reserva Xtra Viejo) are the Opus X blend with maduro wrappers" is just not true.

There has been much discussion on this at the Fuente/Newman forums ... and basically it is just an 'urban legend' ... started by those who didn't know what they were talking about.

Carlito keeps the blend he uses in his OpusX lines a well guarded secret ... and a lot of tobacconists out there will say all kind of things to sell their cigars, and get higher prices.

justforfun --- the link is one put up by a very close friend and associate (and long-standing member of Cigar Family) of the Fuentes and Newmans ... who just got tired of people getting gouged on their cigars.

He did this as a public service ...

He got these MSRP's directly from Carlito ... and they are the prices (before state taxes) that are set by the Fuente Family.

Finding them at (or near) those prices, is the real challenge ...

xibbumbero --- make that ... the first Anejo's ever released, the wrappers were aged 7 years in oak cognac barrels (empty of the liquid, of course) ... :^)

well i live in good old New York State , the tax on cigars is 35% so needless to say the only time I visit my local tobacconist is when I want to get a single stick to sample before i buy a box . any fuente i've seen locally is about $9 and up

My local shop has an Opus account. They usually charge a dollar over msrp on the smaller sizes and up to three dollars over on the larger sizes. (Just paid 15.15 tax and all for a Perfection X.) Always Don Carlos, Diamond Crown, PAM, PAN, and Ashton VSG on the shelves and at very close to msrp. We might see a box of Anejos next week. Last Xmas it was the 49s. Would love to see the Sharks!

Hey, I've been had!

On 2nd thought, I wasnt that big a fan of the only Opus X I ever smoked. Thought it was good, but didn't hear any violins, at that price. Ok, it was a gift, but I know what it cost.

So whaddaya think? Prefer the Anejo or the Opus X? Hope you say Anejo. I guess I better keep these two until Christmas 2003 so they get proper age.

Thanks, X and Slim, for disillusioning me lol.
